This is a collection of some of Drake's early fantasy stories that I believe are among the first that show his meticulous research into portraying historical Roman life with passionate accuracy. The historical realism serves to bring his fantasy and horror themes into sharp focus; it's a really good read for history buffs as well as for genre fans.

This is a collection of some of the early fantasy stories by David Drake and they are mostly outstanding. "Dragon's Teeth" is worth the price of admission by itself. I also have a signed copy.
