This book slowly won me over.
I picked up the advance copy at my office, so I don't think it's in general release yet.
After the first chapter, I thought it was so indulgent I kind of wanted to throw the book out the window. However I kept reading and I began to believe that there were some really adroit insights about the perils of living in Los Angeles. Sadly, then it sort of muddled into a typical unrealistic, chick-lit fantasy story. (Sometimes I think I can tell the ...more

I got an advance copy of this book and let it sit on my shelf for a while. I never read "chick" books, and I didn't really expect to enjoy this.
Boy was a wrong. This novel is awesome-- a lively, gripping read, filled with emotional highs and lows. I am strongly recommending this to all my friends, male or female, as it's a perfect read for the summer.

Party Girl is somewhat Auto-Biographical about the 1990s life style of Anna David, the books Amazing Author!
The writing style is so very subtle, but extremely exciting
Anna quickly draws you into her world of parties, drugs, and her relationships. Then the big moments, her termination, one final incident that leads to rehab. Then a huge business opportunity after rehab
How will it end, well you have to find out for yourself

Not quite as good as "The Devil Wears Prada" or "Bergdorf Blondes," but it's a perfect summer read.

Much more mature than the title lets on and rather fun. Maybe I just like drug stories, but hers is so L.A. and somewhat grounding and insightful.

Amelia Stone is a party girl, in every sense of the word. In fact, her story begins with her being caught in a compromising position with the cousin of the bride at a party being thrown at her mother's house. The story then goes on to describe her almost having a menage a trois with two groomsmen, before sobering up and falling asleep. Because this is what party girls do. Living her life in a haze of cocaine and alcohol, Amelia stops partying only long enough to turn in her articles at Absolutel...more

Not impressed. The lead character was a self-absorbed, whiny, narcissistic cokehead who spent all her time with other self-absorbed, tiresome characters trying to either be "the next hot thing" in Hollywood or recover from addiction just enough to be semi-functional. The writer is a Candace Bushnell-wannabe and, in my opinion, falls utterly flat. I could barely make myself read the last 20 pages because I'd completely given up on the main character; I didn't care if she didn't get the ...more

Anyone on their way to the beach
I really liked the first half of this book. The pre-rehab part. And don't get me wrong, I have nothing against rehab. But after the protagonist gets out of rehab, the book turns into a rehab brochure. Amelia is constantly saying "At Pledges they say that..." or "Rachel, my sponsor, says that..." It just gets a tad old. But I thought that the first half, with her descent to rock bottom was really well-written.

Great book that deals with addiction, the fall a person can take and the damage that can be caused. The story is also about rising up from the addiction and the positive changes that can come with recovery.

I expected this to be another frivolous read, propelled only by the lusty descriptions of glitz and glamor. While the details are definitely there, the story focuses more upon the recovery of a party girl, as she goes through rehab, and emerges fresh into a world that wants only to push her back to her former bad habits. A very enjoyable book with more depth than I expected.

I read this book to study up on some freelance I wanted to do. It's a fun, cheap read, I guess. But the plot was predictable and left some ends untied. But then again, I had an advance review copy, so maybe the author fixed all those things? Dunno. Also, it's horribly shallow and self-centered, so if that's your thing, hit it up.

Amelia Stone makes my (long-ago) "Party Girl" escapades look like a night out at the library. So unrealistic for me, but that was the draw! A quick, fun read for anyone wanting to escape for a few hours.

A quick and easy read...interesting to learn first hand how people can get into over their heads with the social drug scene-money and fame doesnt buy everything

Eh, easy read because it requires no thought whatsoever. Great for a beach read, I suppose, but I had difficulty forcing myself through to the end.

Here's my blurb:
"Let the prose paparazzo's flashbulbs explode on this stunning debut. Fiercely sexy, bracingly frank."

So far so good. I am only 100 pages into it and it is just getting juicy. More events to come.
