The Other Half Of Me (The Emotio Series Willow's Branch)
This book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review.
From the blurb, I was expecting a suspense-filled mystery novel with a friends-to-lovers romance on the side. Sadly, it was the other way around for The Other Half Of Me. The focus was on Barrack and Willow’s exhausting relationship (heavy emphasis on the word exhausting). The suspense/mystery part of the book was insignificant. The murder case was mentioned in passing all throughout the boo...more
Words. A cascade of words. Just so darn many of them. The author tells, rather than shows, just about everything in this book, yet leaves so much unexamined or unexplained.
Willow and Barrack, best friends since they were children, now live in the same apartment building. While Barrack is a police detective, Willow's career is unknown, other than he leaves for "business m ...more
So...the lead singer of a world famous band wears a masquerade mask at all times and no one, not even his band mates, knows what he looks like. Really.
That, along with the crazy names/spelling of names, Patryk, Dominik, Aksel, Willow and I could hear alarm bells ringing in the distance.

Willow and Barrack are great characters. Where Barrack is rough and aggressive, Willow is soft and mellow. Barrack's an asshole but Willow is sweet. Willow pretty much has Barrack wrapped around his pinky and they both know it. When they are friends, their relationship is abnormal to others but in a relationship all their idiosyncrasies fit together better. It's sweet how much these two care ...more
I enjoyed reading this story and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. It deals extensively with miscommunication, unrequited love, self realisation and some interesting twists and turns in the plot.
Barrack is a dedicated and clever detective, but a bit of a loner. He is frustrated with his older partner, who is just biding his time before retirement, but Barrack still covers for him, so he ca ...more
This is not what I expected after reading the blurb. I was looking forward to a gay for you / friends to lovers story and what I got was a guy living in denial, who is so clearly in love with his best friend that he was nothing short of annoying. How could Barrack not know he was in love with Willow?! Really?! It was also unbelievable that Barrack never questioned where his best friend went on business and ...more
For Bare and Willow: 4 stars! I loved these guys. The interaction between them is precious and the dialog was actually pretty good. Truth be told all of the characters were well written and likeable.
For the story itself: 3 stars. It was a really sweet, solid story.
For the writing style: 2 stars. I'm so sorry to say that because with a bit of tweaking it would have been tons better but to me it rea ...more
I felt this book had so much potential, and with it being book one in the series that is why I am giving it 3 stars. I found Barrack and Willow’s relationship exhausting at times and just wanted to smack them both and say wake up and stop being so stubborn. I wish the mystery to the homicide intertwined more into the story instead of the background. I felt at time it was a bit wordy. I liked t ...more
