My daughter reads out loud to her brothers and me in the car to and from school. As much as I really liked the other holiday Thanksgiving and Christmas Junie B. books, this one I did not like at all! It is easy for me to read this with the mind set of as a first grader because I have lots of experience with that age/grade as a former elementary school librarian, plus I have two granddaughters that very same age now. I have always been a fan of the Junie B. Jones series; I read them since I was an elementary school student because it was written in a language that was simple, and familiar to me. To this day, I think that's why it is valuable for children to read these books: they may not be literary works of genius, but they describe relationships and thoughts that kids can understand, and can also show how their ideas may not always be kind or logical when put into action. This book is very cute and quite hilarious. I remember loving the Junie B. Series when I was little but I had never read this one since it is a newer one. When I picked this book up to read it, I was not too sure what it was going to be about. I knew it involved an Easter Bunny somehow. The book talks about how Junie B. is calling her friends "dumb bunny" and she gets in trouble for calling names. So, instead, she thinks the name in her head where nobody can hear her, but she still tells them that she is thinking about it in her head and so she gets told on. Lucille who is a spoiled, rich girl invites everyone over to her mansion for an Easter egg hunt. The winner of the Easter egg hunt gets to have a swim party in Lucille pool. First, let me say I do not like the word "dumb" and I do not allow my children to use it, however, it worked for this book and I actually said it a few times while reading it aloud to my children on a long car ride back home to Pennsylvania from Wisconsin! My daughter loves this series and has read a large portion of them. recently, she's read a couple of them to me while we were in the car. sort of a personal book on tape. plus i was curious as to what the hype was about. it did make me giggle a few times, and i liked that Junie made a very unselfish decision at the end. there were a couple words that dd needed help sounding out- she just guessed rather then using grammar and spelling rules- but for the most part a pretty good choice for new chap...more
My 7yo son brought this book home from school. I laughed out loud as I read. Very witty ... but I'm not sure a first grader would get the funniest parts. The only things I would say against the book are that the book is written in children's voice -- poor grammar and all. This makes the book more accessible but I want my son to know correct word use and grammar so I have to point out mistakes to him.

Cute. Funny. My daughter thinks they're hilarious. I didn't think it was quite as charming as the first Junie B. Jones book I picked up (Junie B. Jones Loves Handsome Warren), which is Junie set in Kindergarten.
But I like to read them, cause I can read the whole thing in like an hour.
I have a feeling I'll be reading a lot of these. My daughter likes it when I read the books she likes.

Not as hilarious and Junie B. and the monkey business, but still entertaining as a read aloud with the kids. Disagreed with a couple of things the teacher said, though, so had to address those with the kids. Good underlying message, which the 2nd grader seemed to understand, but I think it may have been lost on the 6 year old. Still, a fun read.
i don't know why i want to read it...i read them in 1sr grade, but i have never read this one. maybe if i ever go to the library and REALLY need something to read. same for the others. BTW my ratings for junie b jones books are from my 1st grade reading, not now.
These books are filled wit humor and are VERY FUNNy i really LUV THEM nd i read the whole series i luv temmmm!!! nd she is a really good author i really luv all her books their GR8!...... luv junie b jonesss

It was ok. It was funny but some of it was too goofy for me. Maybe not for you, though. Anyway you might want to check out this book, but if you want my advice, "Don't."

Read to my class. The words that Junie B. Jones says and predicaments she finds herself in always opens up 2nd grade discussions about kindness and word choice :)
I like at the end how she finds the gold egg. But she gives it to one of her friends so he could have the play date at the pool with Lucille.
I found the whole boyfriend/girlfriend issue inappropriate. First graders are too young for that. It ruined the book for me.

It's abook that is easy to read but fun because the book describes things in a way that a real first grader would react.
Really cute my three children laughted out loud when the funny parts came and couldnt wait to read the next chapter
she picked out a purple jellybean and there was a surprise. her prize was supposed to be the easter bunny.
Funny...but harder to edit as you are reading aloud since the word dumb is actually in the title
