The reason i choose to read this book is because it sounded interesting i like books that have mysterys in them and this book did. This book is a relistic fiction. This book takes place in the present day in a smaller town. The main characters are Parker and Matthew. Parker is a skinny kid who is very active with blond hair. He is also very nosy and what's to know everything that is going on. Matthew is a chunkier kid but he still can keep up with Parker and he is always really carefull. ...more

First just let me say--how incredibly ugly is this edition's cover? The faces look like melted wax sculptures.
Hahn writes what I can only describe as a great juvenile crime thriller, complete with a (unrequited) love triangle, drug rings, late-night chases through dark streets and teenagers drinking up by the old quarry...well maybe that last bit is unique to the juvenile branch. After the discovery of the body, the story builds up really fast and Matt and Parker come face to face wi...more

This book fits weel in this genre because there is people looking for the dead man and they use clues and such during the hunt.I belive this books intended audience is ment for someone that genrally reads books, I feel this way because I feel like could not concentrate very well during this book. Some personal experiences i have to this book is playing the game grave yard with friends...more
A faster read than the other Mary Downing Hahn books I've read recently, but not as interesting to me. In this one, it was almost predictable who the bad guy was and what would happen, but the pacing was fast and interesting. By the end, I was getting nervous for the boys, despite knowing it would turn out all right. Otis was a great character, even as a dog, and I didn't think about the hints left through the book on how he followed Parker everywhere.

Parker and Matt decide to camp out one last time before the weather turns too cold - and stumble upon a dead man.
Parker swears he saw George Evans (his widowed mother's boyfriend and his least favorite person) at the scene of the crime. This starts a wild, crazy, and somewhat scary adventure.

This book was great fiction for me! Most of the time I read fantasy or Sci-fi books, and usually the things in those books don't exsist, so it's good for me to read a realistic adventure somtimes. The title may sound weird, but this book was certainly a page-turner. And since anything in this book coul've happened and probably did happen at one point in history, it makes the suspense even better! Great adventure and mystery!
I loved this book SO MUCH and if you like mysteries I would read it!!!! I recommend this book to everyone who likes mysteries and the people who don't might start liking them!!! This is a VERY good book!!! LOTS of THINKING about whats going to happen next! Once I pick up this book its hard to put it down!
P.S. it is kinda creepy and you might get chills but, it is very very good!

This is about a boy who wants to camping with his friend. When they are camping they behind this house and they camp there. When they are camping they say everything out here is boring. When they go to this creek they find a body. When they find the body they dont know what to do! I like this book because it caught my attention in the begining of this book. I encourage you to read this book.
Hahn is an excellent mystery writer for older elementary and young middle school. This short book is about 2 boys stumbling upon a crime ring. One's mom is involved and they use a friend's idea to get to the police. This is a quick read, not as intriguing or scary as The Old Willis Place or Wait Till Helen Comes but a good intro to Hahn's writing.

My daughter brought this home from the school library and began asking some rather disturbing questions about the subject matter and themes found in the book. I read it and had to wonder why the book was not vetted for younger elementary students. The book, while not a masterpiece, probably would be of interest to middle school students.
This is a 4.5 on the AR program. It is interesting and written well-enough. Parker's mother is pretty idiotic, and she does a lot of kissing with her boyfriend, but it's not to the point that would make my son uncomfortable. The protagonists are both male, and they help solve a murder. I know my son would enjoy it.
I gave this book 5 stars because it had alot of excitement and It took place in the woods It kept me reading. It would have no excitement and right when you are about to set it down it has tons of excitement. I also liked this book cause they like never talk and are always doing somthing.
This boks freaked me out. It was a scary one. And some scary books I can read at night but how Marry described it sent chills down my spine. These books are the ones i can read only during the days but it was very detailed and you could see a picture in your head as you read!
This is the first of her books that I have read, that was not a ghost story. It kept me guessing till the end. I didn't think I would like it, but was pleasantly surprised. A dead body is discovered, and a mystery evolves. Will the 2 boys figure it out in time? Good book!
When Matt and his friend Parker both go camping in the woods they find a body of a man under a bridge. Once they overhear Parker's mom and her boy friend they find out both of might have something to do with it. Can they prove Parker's mom's boyfriend guilty??
Never keep your mouth shut no matter what is going on. SPEAK UP! Bad things happen to the main characters because they didn't speak up even after they find the dead man by the creek.

Two friends go camping by the creek and discover a dead body. They then decide to find the killer. But can they find him before he finds them? Another thrilling book from Hahn, who is a master of creepy young adult suspense.
I'm giving this 3 stars because I read it so many years ago, that I don't remember much of anything about it, other than it was written by an author I absolutely loved in middle school, and I know that I enjoyed this one.
Eventhough this was a quick and easy book the suspense held me until the end. Recommended to anyone who loves to read and especially upper elementary or lower middle school.

This book is really good, but definitely not as creepy and scary and unforgettable as some of Hahn's other works. Its more of an adventure.
The book was randomly written, but it was good. The plot was sorta erractic, but in the end it all came together.
I read this because there is an Indian Creek by my house and I thought I may have an adventure on my hands!
Engaging, but didn't like the message that kids are smarter than their parents.
I didn't like this book too much. The story was well developed, but after all it is a kids book. I was glad she showed the consequences of making wrong choices and that parents are not perfect and are capable of making mistakes.

I grew up in a small shingled house down at the end of Guilford Road in College Park, Maryland. Our block was loaded with kids my age. We spent hours outdoors playing "Kick the Can" and "Mother, May I" as well as cowboy and outlaw games that usually ended in quarrels about who shot whom. In the summer, we went on day long expeditions into forbidden territory -- the woods on the...more
