Self-defense instructor D.J. Monroe would do anything to be the best. Even if it meant asking super-sexy military expert Quinn Reynolds to demonstrate some of his finest moves...on and off the mat! Normally, D.J. didn't date, didn't trust, didn't let anyone in. But when she found herself falling for Quinn, could she let go of her past and embrace a future with him?

5 stars – Contemporary Romance

Quinn’s Woman by Susan Mallery – 4 stars

But the five star rating is for Home for the Holidays by Sarah Mayberry.

I’m continually impressed by Sarah Mayberry’s level of character development and the realistic, honest drama that’s conveyed in her stories. And she wowed me once again with this sweet, emotive story of a hot, responsible widower with two kids trying to forge a tentative, yet hopeful friendship (and then inevitable relationship) with his sexy new neighbo...more

Quinn's Woman is the last in the Hometown Heart-breaker's series. Quinn was treated badly by his father and he never knew why, no matter how good he was in sports and academics he could never measure up, he joined the military and then Special Forces, so he has led a dark life and now he is questioning it's direction.
He comes to Glennwood to meet his brother Gage and finds out the reason for his father's behaviour and meets his other family the "Haynes".

I read this book only because the name of the hero - Quinn - was in the title, which I needed for a challenge. In general the book wasn't bad but I didn't see the need of parading most of the heroes of the previous books in the series with their women. And how many times did we need to hear the strange business of the hero's parentage? They discussed it 3 times - almost word for word. I got it the first time! The book would have been way better if there hadn't been so much nonsense.

Secrets from her past compel DJ Monroe to excel and be the best at everything. When her path crosses with Quinn Reynolds she has finally met her match. DJ will do anything to have Quinn teach her what he knows, anything but relinquish her heart and control.

I Thought the characters of Quinn and DJ were well written. Quinn is the tough military professional struggling his own internal demons. DJ's past is a big influence into the person she is today. I am not very familiar with heroins as tough and...more

I LOVED QUINN & D.J.! These two characters were so scarred that it just made you love them all the more. The obstacles that they have to recover from to get anywhere near a relationship is worth the read. D.J. is one tough, strong, scared & yet vulnerable woman. Quinn is strong, well trained, handsome, fearless in combat & yet scared in matters of the heart. These two were made for each other but the journey to one another makes this read enjoyable.

Excellent.

D.J. Monroe is extremely fierce in her desire to never fall victim to a man like her mother did. Having herself bested by Quinn Reynolds in a war game, she vows she will convince him to train her so she can beat him.

Quinn might have spent his life as a professional killer for an elite military group, but he wants more than to simply best D.J.

Typical romance novel, a little better than most. I liked the way everything worked out and how badass the heroine was. The vulnerability read a little too deep, but not enough to disturb a very entertaining read.
Donna
This was another fast read. I just never was that enchanted by either DJ or Quinn. I realize that their emotional detachment was the point of the story, but that just didn't allow me to really like them.

I enjoy Susan Mallery's books a lot, and this was no different. Of those I've read of hers though, this one was my least favorite. (I adore her Fools Gold series and loved Completely Smitten.) As far as books go, still closer to the list of loves than dislikes. I think I just didn't connect with the characters in the same way that I typically do.

Home for the Holidays was pure love from beginning to end. 3 stars for Quinn's Woman, 4 stars for Home for the Holidays.

another great book by Susan Mallery. I fell in love with her characters, and wanted their happily ever after for them. Good beach book.
Laura
I really enjoyed this book, the development of the relationship between Quinn and DJ is emotional and hard and well worth it in the end.
Anita Sego
Generally I love her books but this one was boring. One of the few books in my life I never finished reading.
Deborah
I re-read this and enjoyed it just as much the second time. Susan Mallery knows how to write a romance that you can't put down.
Maria
Another in the Haynes' brothers series but about their half-brother Quinn, who is a special forces guy, and D. J. Monroe, who rescues kidnapped children and teaches self-defense and who had a troubled childhood. It was a bit deeper than most of the others and resonated in places on a level I did not expect. I discovered Susan Mallery last February when I was desperate for new authors to read and am now catching up with her earlier stuff that I have bought used. Some have been good, others not so...more
