From the back cover:

"Christina is in high school. She walks back to class after lunch period and hears people gossiping about her. She hugs her mom in the supermarket. She thinks about being an astronaut. Her mom plays weird tapes on the spirituality in their tiny car.

In the second half of the book, Charles has a little brother who always follows him around. Charles tells stories about flying through space. He smokes cigarettes. He arranges his room in really precise ways.

Recommends it for: Very few people
The teaser paragraph on the back cover of Christina and Charles summarizes the story as two title characters who would be perfect for each other if they met, but they never do. After reading the book, I've got to say that I just didn't get it. The character traits are incidental at best. Clearly the pages are whatever Austin English felt like drawing that day. I didn't hate what I read, but putting five months worth of drawings together does not equal a plot.

Two stars for the quirky artwork. The graphics are definitely amateur cool but there is no plot or cohesion from page to page. Mr. English has not figured out how to be effectively narrative...yet.

The plot didn't come together for me, and the drawing style was interesting, but not in an innovative way. The blurb on the back cover was the best part about this book.
