After reading Homan’s current work published online, I didn’t expect these poems to be personal (or seem personal), and I expected to see a lot more prose poems.

These poems are friendly and straightforward. Each poem tells you a story. Judging by the poems, I assume Homan comes from a similar background to me and it feels like I am visiting home. The poems are comforting.

Interesting book that has sections that are straight narrative and sections that are more language experiment in which the appropriated language centers around a bodily theme. Some exciting language manipulation. A real vocabulary builder.

Brandi Homan is the author of the poetry collections Bobcat Country (Shearsman, 2010), Hard Reds (Shearsman, 2008), and Two Kinds of Arson, a chapbook from dancing girl press. She received her MFA from Columbia College Chicago and is a cofounder of Switchback Books, a feminist press publishing poetry by women.
