The Lives of the Sisters

I was almost ten years old when I rejoined my family. My younger sister was an independent one, well she took over the first born's role for years, whilst I dependant to almost everyone around me.

I was struggling to adapt my own family's routine. I love chocolate milk, my sister said plain. I had had to be at home at 1.30 pm, she had the freedom to do anything she wanted to after school.

When I was an innocent child -ehem-,
I worried a lot when my school's uniform was not

i wish i read this book when i was 10 years old! when i was busy with lots of things to worry about! (read: first day at new semester had always made my stomach rumble, assessment and assessment, my cousin's camera which lens i broke, my devilish spoiled brother, what to wear for tomorrow, friend who suddlenly didn't speak to me, report card!) :)

after finish reading the book, i found out that my worriness lightened, though i did not hang them on the branch of the worry tree. well, i know i am to

A great book for kids! I wish I had this book when I was a kid...

Looking up my elementary-school-period diary (the one that I destroyed because of its 'humiliating' content), I was amazed at how worried I was for many things. Even my mom had asked me once (after she read the diary behind my back), "Dear child, what troubles you so much? You don't have to worry about everything, you know..."

Thanks to Roos for borrowing me this book...

Juliet worries about everything in her life, from her parents’ arguments and the conflict between her two best friends to the school bully. When she moves into a new bedroom (her grandmother’s childhood room), Juliet discovers a painted tree underneath the wallpaper. Her grandmother explains that each of the animals in this “worry tree” can take care of different types of worries for Juliet while she is sleeping. With the animals’ help, Juliet eventually overcomes her seemingly insurmountable wo ...more

4.5 stars!

'Worrywart' hardly covers Juliet's most almost pathological obsessiveness with ordering her world. She shows signs of what I'd call 'parental inversion', taking on the role of an adult when her mother and father act in childish ways. She's a little Miss Fix-it who rushes to invent ways to make things right.

Her sister Ophelia aka 'Oaf' is one of the most irritating little brats I've encountered in many a long year of reading. She's also one of the funniest. The sort of kid you don't kno

Being a former teacher, I always get excited when I find a book that can be used in the classroom and actually be the basis of a topic to work throughout a term. Well The Worry Tree is one of those books. This is a book that could be used as a PSHE ( Personal, Social, Health and Economic) resource with ease allowing children to produce their own worry trees.

The book introduces us to Juliet, a worrier. She worries about a lot of different things - she worries about her annoying little sister who

I don't read a great deal of books aimed at younger readers and spend a lot more time on those aimed at A YA audience but in this case it was worth making the exception. I loved the worry tree and thought it was a beautifully written and poignant novel which has a lovely message to get across to youngsters.

The Worry Tree revolves arounf Juilet. Juilet is a worrier. She worries about her sister bothering her all the time, about her grandmother falling and hurting herself, about the school bully,

membaca buku anak-anak selalu mengesankan..

Juliet is a born worrier. She worries about lots of things: her grandmother falling, her little sister driving her batty, hygiene, her parents arguing and especially her two best friends fighting over her. After things with her little sister finally come to a head, she gets to move into her father's old junk room. There she discovers a mural on the wall, hidden behind the wallpaper. It shows a tree filled with animals, designed to take your worries and watch over them for you. Exactly what Julie ...more

Juliet is 10 and worries about everything. She verges on Obsessive Compulsive (sorting her collections makes her feel better, as does routine), breaks out in a rash when stressed, finds it difficult to stand up to anyone, and can't express her anxieties. When Nana shows her The Worry Tree, Juliet finds a way to state her worries, to give them perspective and examine them for solutions. She shares her worries with the animals

Oaf is timing Juliet in the bathroom again. She hates it when her little sister does that, just as much as when she sings the irritating song or takes things out of her collections without asking. Mom convinces dad that Juliet needs her own bedroom, but this required dad to move all his stuff out. Mom hopes that it remains in the hallway just temporarily. When Juliet discovers a painted tree populated by different animals under the peeling wallpaper in her new room, her Nana explains about the W ...more

Awalnya gua pikir abis tuh anak (yaikss.. baru kelar baca, gua udah lupa namanya!

This is a lovely story, with just enough humor to keep it light but not silly. Although boys struggle with similar issues, the presentation makes this a book for preteen girls. Although this may be too subtle for some readers to see, the author does a wonderful job showing cross-generation struggles with change: Nana (grandmother) is fighting against growing old; Juliet is struggling to be more independent, too. I particularly liked that there are pages in the back where the reader can place the ...more

Juliet worries about everything. She is constantly tormented by her younger sister, Ophelia. Her dad could be described as a “mad scientist” and is oblivious to everything except his inventions. Her Grandmother is a retired professor who hasn’t embraced the thrill of craft class at the senior center. Mom is a psychologist who’s solution to family friction is to play the “tell me how you really feel” game. And then there are the friends. There is hope for Juliet, however, when an old mural is dis ...more
