It's been a long time that I'd read this book that I forgot the year when I read it. But I do know that I've read all three books of this series at the same year.

I was curious as to why the title was related to Sleeping Beauty. Knowing Anne Rice works, I was expecting a different kind of thriller or possibly a romance novel since it was written in a pen name AN Roquolaire.

I was surprised when I finaly read this book, the first chapter, I can say, have shocked me. Well, not really shocke...more

This is a scrumptious sexual feast from Anne Rice, writing under a pseudonym. It picks up the Sleeping Beauty tale from the moment the Prince kisses her and spins a three-book saga of what happens next. Beauty is whisked off to the Prince's kingdom, but discovers that before she can marry him, she must follow the laws of his land and do as the other princes and pricesses do. That is, she must surrender to several years of humiliating sado-masochistic sexual servitude at the hands of the aristocr...more

I got this in a boxed set one Christmas from my GRANDMOTHER. She knew I collected fairy tales and their adaptations. I'm fairly certain she had no idea the books were erotic. I think she just saw "Sleeping Beauty" and assumed I'd want it. She wanted to borrow it from me when I was done. I kept pretending to forget it every time.

First Book: Fun and novel read. Interesting background and lots of creative naughty bits for fun.

Second book: Lost steam. She lost most of the backgro...more

When I was child, I was sort of disappointed with the endings of fairytales. But I got my answer and yes I liked it. Sleeping Beauty ends with kiss, right? Prince reached the tower and kissed the sleeping virgin to wake her up. This is considered as highly non practical. See you got nearly killed during the journey, you were thirsty and hungry not mention horny. The first logical choice was to satisfy at least one of those craving and the third seems as the most logical thing to do. The prince ...more

You can never un-read this book. As a youth (age 20) I attempted to read it at a lover's prompting. It's the only book I have ever thrown across the room...several times. The strong female in me chafed against the seemingly barbaric dominance of the prince and the high court. Even more disturbing was that, although my mind rebelled against every new torture, my body reacted hotly with erotic lust.

I had to find a copy...I don't really want to read it again, but I want the symbol of my growth ...more

This book was really my introduction into Erotica and is definitely an eye opener. I agree with one of the other reviewers in that this is so well written by Anne Rice (Penn Name A. N. Roquelaure) that you may be ruined for other Erotica - I was.

This book basically picks up where the Prince awakens Sleeping Beauty with a... He then takes her back to his kingdom where she is basically a slave along with many others that are being groomed for nobility. The BDSM li...more

This is erotica, straight-up. I'm telling you this because I don't want someone to come back to me and say, "I read this thinking it was something fairy-tale like, and all I got was a little S&M, dominatrix/submissive stuff, with some plot mixed in".

I was first introduced to it when I was a naive 22 year old. A friend asked me (without telling me) to read the first pages of Beauty's awakening....let's just say it's not really a kiss from her true love.

I liked it - it was al...more

I started reading one of Rice's Sleeping Beauty books while I was in high school and quickly realized that I was in over my head. I've tried again as an adult and all I can say is that these books should come with a warning lable telling people not to try any of the dangerous SM stuff included between the pages.

I don't think any of the practices in any of the books are Safe, Sane, or Consensual. Well, maybe an arguement could be made for some of them being consensual, but safe or sa...more

I'm almost ashamed of myself for taking such pleasure in reading these books. Almost, but not quite.

This is one of those series where I find myself reading the same chapters over and over again because I can't seem to get enough. The story is interesting, the characters colorful and the kink is plentiful and deliciously descriptive.

If the spanking of an adult woman or one man pleasuring another orally isn't your fancy...I wouldn't suggest reading this book because that stuff doesn't ev...more

I learned that you can only be whipped in so many ways. I forgot who reccommended this book to me, but I think they had me pegged wrong. I like retellings of fairy tales but not in the s&m/bondage sort of way. One of my many problems with Anne Rice is her constant leading to homoeroticism. Not there is anything wrong with that, I just don't get anything out of reading it. I prefer heterosexual bodice-rippers, is all. I read it when I was sick, and there really wasn't much to it. Sex, w...more

I sort of enjoyed this book. The whole thing seemed a little gimmicky. I have never found Anne Rice to be a particularly good writer. Her prose is stilted (and yes, here it is acceptable to a certain extent, as she is mimicking the fairy tale form). It came off as a little bit flat. There are a couple of hot parts, but they are sort of far apart for my taste.
Maybe calling it gimmicky is not a reason for disliking it. I admittedly never would have read this book were it not erotica based ...more

Magnetic in that morbidly fascinating way that finds you researching spruce-flavored beverages at three in the morning. That mood is important, because there's an awful lot of spanking in here, and you wouldn't want to get tired of it.

Also ends well, although Beauty gets flighty enough near the end that I think Ms. Rice was getting a bit bored with the character.

For whatever reason, I picked up all three of these in the series. Well, the reason was that I found that the Vampire series was full of homoeroticism that, quite frankly, got me hot. Naturally, I assumed that these books would also be erotically charged. This is not the case. I'm not entertained by the storyline, the characters have no depth, and I'm extremely tired of reading about various ways to beat another human being into sexual submission. Curiously enough, however, I am now wonderi...more

As others have critiqued... NOT A ROMANCE NOVEL... this is fetish sex plain and simple. A coworker gave me the trilogy to read saying only that it was erotic (I'm thinking hotter than Sidney Sheldon but was not prepared for this). That said, though I was shocked I was also fascinated enough to read on... that such things existed (not to mention the well known Ann Rice wrote this. Kinda shocking, right?! I mean, is this HER lifestlye??). Call me naive but until this, and subsequent HBO's Re...more

Ok, so, there was a time that I wanted to read Anne Rice. I liked "Interview" (the movie) enough to give the book a go. Luckily, I picked up this book first...

There's some anal sex in here. There is not just like some anal sex, no, there is ANAL SEX!!!!! It's happening, all through the book! I smelled my fingers after I put the book down just to make sure I hadn't been tainted (no pun intended). Alas, only my mind had been sullied.

You would think a book that invoked the name ...more

This is the first book I openly proselytized for among my friends. I was so taken by the book that I actually would read it in class in High School when I could. Of course, it's the kind of book that can get you in serious trouble at school, but it was worth it. I will warn you though. This book will ruin you on most other erotica. Between this book and the other two in the trilogy, you will be unable to enjoy reading most of the erotica out there, because it is so well written.

YIKES! Who wants a spanking? (or several hundred, until your ass is welted and raw!?!?) Who'd like to be forced into sexual relations with people whom you don't know, but oddly, are all VERY sexy and have raw asses too? OOH! Don't pick me! (insert sound of whip cracking) I guess I lack the sadist traits that would make this enjoyable and/or sexy. WTF, Anne RICE!?!?!

Ummm.....I'm not sure where to start. I happened upon this book in college, as it was on a summer reading list. This book is an erotic take on the classic Sleepy Beauty. Before I finished half of the first chapter, I was blushing. I'm definately not a romance fan and don't usually appreciate eroticism in novel. But, I would classify this as eroticism in literature. I know that some one is rolling their eyes, saying this isn't literature. At any rate, it certainly isn't for those who are re...more

When I first saw it, I thought, "literary BDSM erotica? What could go wrong?"

Well, apparently a lot. Don't get me wrong, it was literary and made me squirm the whole time, but something about the characters. They weren't particularly moving, more like flat 2-D sex machines. I guess I'm old-fashioned; I like a little mushiness with my spanking, whipping, bondage and random-sex-with-lots-of-people. Maybe if there was more psychological insight into the characters and a love interest ...more

Another retelling, this story concerns Sleeping Beauty who is awakened by the Prince by a sexual act. She then becomes his property, and taken to his kingdom where she will learn the ways of the slaves. Along the way she meets Prince Alexi, Lord Gregory, Lady Juliana, Leon, the Bridle Path, and the Queen, who is Prince's mother and who is afraid her son will become too attached to his prize. More spankings and paddlings. The language is better, more poetic than the Dracula book I read.
