I've always been a big fan of Keith Green and especially love the story of his life. Melody Green did an excellent job telling the story and this will always be one of my most favorite books. It's a glimpse into the life of a real person with an extraordinary faith, but who didn't keep it to himself as some kind of mystic. Keith lived it out with sincerity and invited everyone in for the journey. His mistakes and triumphs matched with his humility and passion for God show us that it is completel...more

This is the story of authentic Christianity--one that few see, and fewer live. Keith Green began his spiritual quest as a '60's hippie musician and searched out drugs, free love, perfectionist musical performance, and eastern mysticism before encountering the Living God. He managed to escape the Christian dogmatism of church indoctrination, and learned the Word of God by *gasp* reading it for himself. He and his wife Melody, co-author of the book, lived the sort of life that took Jesus literally...more

No Compromise: The Life Story of Keith Green
By
Melody Green & David Hazard

This is a fascinating biography of one of the pioneers of modern Christian music. What makes this so fascinating is not just because of the musical talent that Keith Green possessed; it was how he used it and the journey that led him to use his gifts for the Lord.

God’s sovereign grace is very evident in the life story of Keith Green. God rescued him from a life that was constantly looking for f...more

Keith’s story will not only make you want to have amazing long curly hair and mad skills to jam on the piano with no restraints; it will change your life! Weather you are a believer or not, a musician or not, this amazing testimony from Keith will rock you to the core! From start to end; Keith had passion, talent, and natural leadership skills. You will find out how his journey for something “greater” went from the hippie love/drug...more

I really loved this book. It was not easy for me to read, in some ways. For one, I knew the ending and I knew I did not want to face it. I also struggled because I understood so much of what Keith Green was struggling with and I just wanted to sit down and talk to him and compare notes! This man truly turned his life over to the Lord and the music that he created along that path is beyond beautiful. I appreciated his widow's very honest and open approach to telling his story. So often it is diff...more

Let's take it way back! This was the first book I read as a Christian! Keep that in mind if you decide to read it. At the age of 16, I was really shapped by this book and the convictions that it holds.

I have been reading this book for quite a while, the kind I put away and bring back again, in a cyclical way. I love the man, His Lord and mine, and the inspiration of a sold out brother in Christ. Make that the absolute INSPIRATION of such a man. Every Christian should read this at some point in their lives. I only gave it four stars because I am a literary critic in my heart (although I do not usually care to take the time to do a decent job of writing a truly solid literary criticism), and Ke...more

This book had quite an impact on me when I read it years ago. It did the same when I read again recently. I have loved Keith Green's ageless, inspirational, and annointed music for years and the main message from this book is as relevant today as it was when it was first published. It does challenge one's own faith; to take a closer look at the areas in our lives that perhaps we have allowed compromise in any form to creep in and therefore seperate us in varying degrees to the Lord and His plan...more

Melody Green wrote an absolutely fabulous biography of her late husband, Keith Green. Whether it be Keith's wandering years when he was searching for inner-peace and using drugs, or the struggles he faced after he accepted Jesus into his life, to the legacy of Keith Green's death and its impact upon the ministry - she doesn't leave much out. When Keith struggles, we struggle. When Keith praises God, we praise God. It is a very humbling and sober read. The addition of sections from Keith's person...more

On Easter Sunday, one of my friends on Facebook posted a video of "The Easter Song," sung by Keith Green. I had not thought of Keith in a long time. I decided to download the book to my Kindle and just finished it.

I enjoyed this book, primarily for two reasons: 1) Keith's music (and a few other groups from that era) exemplified what I believe contemporary Christian music was intended to be; and 2) Keith and Melody genuinely tried to follow Jesus without compromise--albeit imperfectly (as the re...more

I am 100% fully convinced that I would have been great friends with Keith Green if the time frame of our lives overlapped together. I wonder what his Myer Briggs was... hahah

This book is amazing, and his story, his music, his life is still impacting people today. How do I know? Because it's impacting mine!

The title of the book speaks for itself, No Compromise. Keith Green was a King David of his day. He had a good heart, a child-like innocence, and a burning passion that sparks something in you...more

This is such a frank yet powerful testimony. To hear Keiths' life from his wifes' point of view makes it even better.
The sheer power God had in that mans' life was not scary or daunting, it was just encouraging. A note to readers:there is drug use and references to prostitution in this book, mainly due to Keiths extreme and difficult search for truth. I would reccomend this book to any christian, and even more so to christian artists.
In fact, I think most christians should read it.

I love this book- it's an amazing story of one of the pioneers of contemporary Christian music. Keith Green's legacy reflects his radical faith in Christ and what God can go through a heart sold out to Him. His music and lyrics are timeless worship. Most amazing is this story is written by Melody after Keith's tragic and early death. Her perspective, along with entries from his journal are very detailed. I first read this story over 15 years ago, and plan to re-read it soon.

I worked as a temp worker at Last Days Ministries in 1982, 6 months after Keith Green died. It was a life-changing experience for me. I got the feeling it was a life-changing experience for most people who worked there. Reading Melody's account of Keith's life explained so much of the back story, the heart of the ministry, the mission. While I now have some theological differences, I still appreciate a man whose heart was radically changed by the love of the Savior.

How inspiring! The life of Keith Green starts out with his questions of life and his longing for spiritual fullfillment in all the wrong places. The whole time he was looking for Jesus and wanted badly to accept Christ. Eventually he did and used his talents of music and ministered to thousands of people in only his short seven years as a Christian before he died. Melody Green writes a beautiful story about the life of her husband and his walk with the Lord and the relationship she shared with h...more

Keith was several years gone before I ever heard of him but I can tell you that once I did hear his music, my life was never the same. Melody tells Keith's story as only a wife can and she doesn't try to hide his flaws .... and neither did he! I have long said that there is a Keith Green song for every life situation.
Was he a modern day prophet? Perhaps. A saint? Not by a long shot! He was a man who loved the Lord and was willing to give his all for Him

No book other than the bible has ever changed my life the way this has. To see the irresistible way Keith and Melody Green have walked and seeing their transformation through God is amazing. And what's most compelling to me is: Love. This book is full of love and speaks of the love God has for every one of us. That's also the big reason why this book played a key role in God winning me back at a time I thought I was done with him.

A touching biography on one of the premiere contemporary Christian musicians. Having been born the day before Keith departed this earth, I wasn't very well versed in his music when I picked up this book. After reading it, I listened to all of it and was blown over by not only his musical abilities, but his lyrical ones as well.

This book pulls no punches, just like Keith Green didn't in the time he was here. For anyone interested in Keith's music, or just those that are interested in the Christia...more

Keith Green was an amazing songwriter and understanding his life gives his music an even greater depth. His commitment to follow the Lord, wherever that may have led, is truly inspiring. If it weren't for Keith Green and his contemporaries, we'd have no Toby Mac, Switchfoot, Skillet, etc. today! Even if you aren't familiar with his music, this book will challenge and inspire anyone seeking to grow closer to God.

For those who may have forgotten, Keith Green and his wife Melody wrote the worship song, There Is a Redeemer. Melody also wrote the inspiring story of her husband's life and tragic death in the book No Compromise. It is about their search for faith and purpose in God, and the way they deal with people, and their ministry.

I just finished the updated "Legacy" edition. Written by Melody Green, this feels as much like an autobiography as a biography. This is not because she is writing about herself, but rather because it's obvious that they truly experienced unity in their marriage.

I have no words intelligent enough to describe Keith's life or summarize his story. Just read the book; you will not be disappointed.

I read this book purely because I'd heard my parents talk about Keith Green and they listened to his music when I was very young so it was all new to me and I was blown away with his awesome faith and ministry. However, as a 20-year-old, most of my friends hadn't heard of him which frustrated me as I like to discuss the books I'm reading...

kindle - Church History/Biography

Inspiring read of an on-fire evangelist. The reader must keep in mind that Keith was still a fairly new christian and a young man when he died. You can see some of his theology developing when he did not see professions of faith matching lifestyles. He even started to call into question the validity and appropriateness of altar calls even though this is what he was accustomed to in his circle of christianity.

Nonetheless, God used his short life as a christian to...more

I truly appreciated Melody's honesty. Keith accomplished a lot of good in his life, but he wasn't perfect, and she never tried to paint him as a saint or martyr. I really wish I could have known Keith; his honest love for God and his sincere desire to help others and to bring others to Christ shows through all his work. When I finished the book, I wanted to move to Texas and live at his ranch and help with his work!

Other than the Bible (of course), this is one of the most life-changing books I have ever read... and reread... and reread. I've gone through ten or 12 copies because I always seem to be giving them to friends. This is the biography of a remarkable man, written by his widow, with excerpts from his journal. The simple yet unbelievably profound explanation for Keith Green is that he tried to be like Christ. No, he wasn't at all perfect, but he just wanted to be like Jesus. On the surface of things...more

I have read this book so many times! Each time I am challeneged and inspired by an amazing man (and his amazing wife) who truly desired to live a life that pleased God. It's bitterwseet but the tragedy of his death is somehow balanced with all the good that came from his life. 27 years after his death he still impacts me.

Keith Green was among the early pioneers in what we now call Contemporary Christian Music. He died before his time, but spent his time spreading the Word of God with 'No Compromise'.

He realized He could not be the focus, nor could his music. God's message was all that mattered. He was convicted of the words of Ezekiel 3, regarding the watchman. A paraphrased version of this passage is as follows:

If God gives a warning the wicked man will perish and the watchman fails to give the warning, when t...more

I think one of the reasons that this book means so much to me is that Keith's journey reflects my own in so many ways... just decades earlier. But the main reason? I honestly believe that if everyone who claimed to follow Jesus used Keith's story as a goal to shoot for, the world would change overnight.

I have been brought up listenting to keith green. As my mother used to sing "oh Lord your beautiful" to me everynight I went to bed. This book was very touching, and I got emotional at the end. He was an amazing christian artisit, and an amazing man of God. He will never be forgotten. Ever
