When Lauri agreed to consider the personal tutor position for a hearing-impaired girl named Jennifer who was part of her school, she never realized that the father was none other than actor Drake Rivington. Their initial meeting doesn't go over very well, but when Lauri puts aside her frustration with Drake and agrees everything changes.

Drake just wants the best for his daughter. As a widower who loved his wife, Drake has no intention of putting his heart out there again. Lauri though wakes ever
I have read many of Sandra Brown's books and this one is just as good as the others!! WOW, this author is fantastic!

Sandra Brown has written a beautiful love story with three beautiful characters. It is fast reading and good for escape.

Lauri is a “goody two-shoes” teacher of the deaf who becomes the private tutor of adorable Jennifer, a toddler who is hearing impaired. Jennifer is daughter of a sexy soap opera star who likes to bate Lauri. Of course Drake and Lauri fall in love, but not without complications and
Deaf-student teacher is hired by attractive soap-opera actor to become his daughter's private, live-in tutor. She has hard time resisting sexual offers of this non-committing hero who promised not to love again after his wife died.

Read this book the 1st time 15 yrs ago & liked it. Just re-read it & could not believe the glaring sexual harrassment behaviors at work here. Even though heroine tells hero clearly that his advances are unwelcomed b/c he hired her as her daughter's private tut
I have come to adore Sandra Brown and her books!

Until recently, I'd read only a couple of her romantic suspense books, and they were fantastic, but I became distracted by other books before I could read the rest. I recently won one of her books on a goodreads giveaway, and now I'm hooked!
Why am I hooked you ask?
For me, her books are like chocolate... Stress relieving, glorious, rich, almost-sinful, pure reading pleasure. Also, Ms. Brown is a generous author; the book I won came with an extra t

Ugh, I didn't know this was a reprint of an old Sandra Brown book. Her writing has changed so much for the better since Eloquent Silence was first published in the 80's. The only redeeming part of the plot was the heroine- a widow- who taught sign language. This was a disappointing romance without Brown's usual dialogue and descriptions. Not the same quality as French Silk, or Brown's later suspense type books. Don't bother unless you want a totally mindless read about a tutor whose student has ...more

*I received a complimentary copy of Eloquent Silence in exchange for an honest review.

I read Eloquence Silence right after Love’s Encore. I’m glad I did because I really liked this book! I really enjoy celebrity romance reads and this one has a soap opera star as the hero. The Lauri is a teacher for deaf children and is thrown for a loop when she discovers who her new student’s parent is. Drake is a the hottest soap opera star right now and the widowed parent to a young deaf daughter, Jennifer.
When Lauri Parrish is asked to teach a hearing impaired four-year-old American Sign Language, she thought it would be the perfect job. She has second thoughts when she learns that Jennifer's father is Soap Opera Star Drake Sloan. But since Drake will stay in New York for his job and Lauri and Jennifer will live in New Mexico, Lauri agrees. What she doesn't expect is Drake arriving in New Mexico on extended leave from his job and moving in with them.

This story was written in 1982 and feels very d

Oldie but goodie. At times it was dated but other than that it was a very sweet story. I loved Jennifer the little deaf girl. She was too cute. Drake was a great hero and quite seductive. :) This is a good read.

My read was from the original publication as a Candlelight Ecstasy Romance. I may have read the reprint years ago but it didn't seem familiar as I read the book.
fat read, I liked it a lot. It was super romantic and really cute. The only think I didn't like was Drake's look. I don't really find moustache sexy so i always had to imagine him differently lolXD But the book was great though:D
There is a note to the reader in the front of the book from author Sandra Brown explaining that prior to writing general fiction she wrote romances. The title of “Eloquent Silence” was originally published >10 years ago under her first pen name of Rachel Ryan.
I enjoyed the book for what it is … a happily ever after - short novel of escape … what I personally refer to as a ‘good beach book’. And I absolutely loved the way the author brought the title into the last chapter. It’s a beautiful des

Eloquent Silence

This was another well written Sandra Brown novel.
Although I would have to say I am in love with Sandra Brown's novels. I don't think I have read anything that she has written that I have not truly enjoyed. I think, I have read every thing that she has written.
she can create some great stories, that the reader can get lost in.
Really sweet story, December 6, 2008
This story was originally released in the early 80's but is surprisingly timeless.

Lauri is a teacher for the deaf that takes on the position of full time caretaker of the 3 year old daughter of a very popular soap opera star named Drake. Immediately, there's mutal attraction, but both Lauri and Drake have much baggage from previous relationships.

Lauri relocates from New York to Drakes house (estate) out west to take care of Drakes daughter while Drake stays

I probably would only have given this two stars, but it's partly about a little deaf girl. Which automatically intrigues me, what with my plan to minor in ASL. I do have to say, though, that while saying that the characters would sign to each other, the language itself played a very minor role in the book, especially considering that the title comes from the use of sign. I still don't know if they were using ASL or signing English, which are two very different ways of speaking with the hands. An ...more
It was a nice book, but not as nice as Sandra Brown other books.

It just wasn't so emotional, spontaneous, exciting, touching like in the other books.

This is the book i like the less, but i still like it.

Drake is an actor and a single father with a 3 years old deaf girl. He hires a private teacher to teach his little girl the sign language and how to write and read. He lost his wife and don't want to love again - but his daughter teacher is nothing he had imagined. And they fall in love, but befo
This book was totally predictable no matter what way the story turned, so why then did I rate it 4 stars, well it was because the 2 main characters Drake and Lauri were great fun. Even though the book is really old, first published in 1982, you couldn't tell with the exception of a scene set in the airport. Lauri is a spitfire and determined to stick to her laurels even with the handsome Drake around, which is hard as he is a soap opera actor and has all that charisma those leading men do. At th ...more

it's a romantic relationship between the teacher of sign language and the father of her young student. as it is an old boot from th he 80s, some practices as spankings are considered as disciplinary act
audiobook Joyce Bean voice, story good, heroine's insecurity a bit annoying, Lauri a teacher of the deafs with Drake and actor.

I hadn't realized that this was a re-publish of a book Sandra Brown had written under a different name (Romance "name"). I little more heavy on the romance that I'm used to, compared to some of her more suspenseful novels I have enjoyed, where the focus is on that, and the romance is a little more secondary. Still, it was a sweet story and I liked the fact that it dealt with a deaf child and her teacher and the teacher's approach to teaching her to be like a normal child and not give into her du ...more

This is awful. Please don't publish any more of these old books of hers that don't deserve to be published.
Old Sandra Brown and not very good. Predictable ending. I skipped over a lot of it.

Well-written as usual for Sandra Brown. Very sexy throughout but somewhat predictable. Given that, I had 2 problems with this story: Laura repeatedly states that Blake is still in love with his deceased wife. That statement, without anything stated by Blake, gets a little repetitive and whenever the romance heats up physically, Laura lets it get fairly heated before she changes her mind. Talk about a tease! However, the bottom line is that this author is a master at written love-making!

This book
Sandra Brown never disappoints. This is one of her older books (1982) but it really reads like it could be a book that was written recently. All of her books are like that. You can't tell that it was written 28 years ago and I think that speaks volumes for the author.

Eloquent Silence was a great story that took an interesting turn at the end. I had no idea of the little twist that I was going to read when I was towards the end of the book. Brown always keeps me on my toes which is why I love her

Really fun book to read like the characters...

Truly magnificent!
This book should give all writer-wannabes hope - You Too Can Be Published.

The Hero is a jerk if not a sociopath. There were so many times I thought that he would have to bite the dust for the story to find a happy ending. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

The Heroine is so dense she would welcome home Jason, hockey mask and all. She would, no doubt, be thinking "Why is it he makes every cell in my body tingle?" Bleeeeeeack

However, I learned a lot about educating the deaf which may have been t
