"It's Christmastime, and police officers Darrel Two Moons and Steve Katz are expecting the usual gang assaults, feuding spouses, and alcohol-related misdemeanors. Then the call comes in from the Historic District: the reported death of an art gallery owner whose bludgeoned body stretches across a bleached pine floor like a big, nasty still life." When he was in the NYPD, K...more

The celebrated crime-writing family, the Kellermans (Jonathan & Faye) have collaborated on 2 books; both consist of 2 novellas featuring new characters in new (at least for the Kellermans) locales.

Double Homicide contains two excellent examples of the standalone novella. Both books introduce new characters - cops and the people in their lives, and victims and the people in THEIR (former) lives. By the time the story has concluded, we know enough about the protagonists and other supporting ch...more

Short novellas disappoint -- we wanted Decker & Alex !!

We were so excited to learn that two of our favorite authors -- Faye and Jonathan Kellerman (husband and wife as well) -- had teamed up to write "a novel" entitled Double Homicide. We were all set for a sparkling Alex Delaware (on one murder) meeting Peter Decker (on the other), and the twain happily and merrily collaborating to nail the bad guys. Alas, we and the publishers and authors were not seeing eye to eye; instead, we got two rat...more

Anyone who loves a good murder mystery has read Jonathan Kellerman books and Faye Kellerman talent matches Jonathan's in every way. This husband and wife team have brought mystery to a new level in DOUBLE HOMICIDE BOSTON and DOUBLE HOMICIDE SANTA FE
. Two tales in one book: one takes place in Boston surrounding the death of a promising basketball star; the other takes place in Santa Fe with the death of a prominent art dealer. Of course numerous suspects for both and an investigative team that ma...more

Boston:

Two pages in a mother finds a gun in the bottom of her teenaged son's back pack. Being as the mother in question here is a Police Detective, does she go into ball busting mode? Not a chance and On page three, her 21 year old son chews her out for invading his brother's privacy... all I can think of is "I'm your MOTHER, he is a minor and you still live under my roof, you do not have any damned privacy from ME!" From there she goes into a weepy reconciliation scene that gave me the creeps a...more

Two short mysteries - In the Land of Giants and Still Life which is set in Santa Fe. The Santa Fe story is about an egotistical art gallery owner who is a real jerk, (I suspect there are many like him). His body is found with few clues.

In the Land of giants a single mom who is a police detective is raising her two sons. She and her partner investigate the death of the star of the college basketball team her son plays on. the solution is even sadder than the murder. His over-the-hill pro basketb...more

In my mind, I'm not sure the Boston story qualifies as a murder mystery. Plus, the motivations of the victim's mother felt way too forced. That a mother always protects her child felt way too simple. I just kept thinking to myself - no one's really talked to the mother. And the police officers' judgment of the father went in the other extreme. Mother-good. Father-bad.

I was expecting some cross over between Boston and Santa Fe. Nothing - just people dying in separate cities.

In the Santa Fe stor...more

Jonathan Kellerman and wife Faye Kellerman co-authored this book. Double Homicide is a quick read. It is not representative of their books. Their fans will probably like it. Double Homicide contains two short novels. The first story is Double Homicide: Boston. A city college basketball star is shot at a nightclub after a game. The suspect is from the opposing team. The crime appears open-and-shut to detectives Michael McCain and Doris Breton. But all is not as it appears according to the forensi...more

Jonathan Kellerman is my all time favorite author. I love his Dr. Delaware novels. The first half of this book I wasn't really impressed with and I didn't identify with the characters very well. I enjoyed the 2nd half much more and I could relate better to the characters in New Mexico. The ending really threw me off. Seemed very sudden and not thought out as well as it could have been...

I got this book years ago and when I first read it, Double Homicide wasn't that bad. However I recently picked it up and gave it another read and it is terrible. The idea of having two books in one is horrible and I believe it doesn't give the authors enough time to flesh out the stories or have a feel for the characters.

The endings feel rushed, yes I was surprised but the plot was thin and hardly there so you couldn't work out or even guess who did it in the end. Boston is marginally better tha...more

I liked the idea of a husband and wife writing a book together, but it was different than I thought it would be. The first story was really easy to get in to. I identified with the characters pretty well. This is the 4th audio CD I 'read' and this part was read a little faster than the others. I kinda liked it.

The second book was a little slower to pick up, but I loved that it was read by Lou Diamond Phillips. I would like to listen to more read by him. Once I got into it, I totally forgot it wa...more

Double Homicide: Boston is one of those books with misleading titles. (view spoiler)[It's not a homicide case after all. (hide spoiler)] I also found the story too simple and lacked characters, making it easy to predict.

Santa Fe, on the other hand, was thrilling. It revolved around art, which was an interesting subject, had multiple suspects, and had interesting twists. You'd think they already have the suspect, but then, as you read on, you're proven mistaken. It was told in such a way that eve...more

I liked the first book of the pack, the one in Boston. The story made sense and I was interested. The one in Santa Fe though? Awful. I couldn't get connected to the characters, and the resolution didn't feel like one at all. I felt like we got a lot of background into the detectives for no reason, and not enough of the motive of the killer.
Casey
I really enjoy Faye Kellerman and Jonathan Kellerman-- but when they write together, the story gets convoluted. I didn't enjoy this at all, but that might have had more to do with the difference in the way the story was told rather than the writing. Not my style.
Lora
One set in Boston, one is set in Santa Fe. I liked the latter better. The Boston one is about basketball, and just sort of...stopped, rather than ending. The Santa Fe story is about the art scene, and was just a better story. Better reader too, much more consistent in his voices.
Frank
Actually listened while hiking to the book. Entertaining enough to keep my interest. Kind of wished the SanteFe version would expand into another book. I can relate to Steve Katz.
Sheryl
Cute idea, but it didn't work for me. I love Jonathan's and Faye's books on an individual basis, but trying to make a "crossover" didn't do it for me. I thought both halves were weak.
Kate Kulig
Interesting character study of two brothers, one white, one black, one a PI, one a homicide detective, working the same case. As expected, the best comes when they work together.
Jane
A pair of short stories, one each by husband and wife Faye an Jonathan Kellerman. Neither is brilliant but they,re both good detective stories by a pair of competent writers.
Erika
I was disappointed in this joint effort by husband-and-wife authors Jonathan and Faye Kellerman. Each story read more like half of a story, not a fully-developed tale.
Melanie
I don't enjoy books where Jonathan and Faye Kellerman write together as much as one's written entirely by Jonathan Kellerman, but this was a good mystery.
Kevin Bowser
I was not impressed with this book. I have read Faye Kellerman's Ritual Bath. And I thought that was good. but this collaborative effort was not that great.

Can I give two ratings since it was two separate stories? I enjoyed the short story which took place in Boston but felt the one that took place in Santa Fe fell flat.
Brenda Ann
Two completely separate stories in one book. Why?

The accents in the first story will annoy you if you are from Boston! I swear we don't sound that stupid ;^)
Rachel
two novellas combined into one book. the stories really have nothing to do with eachother accept they both occur near Christmas. I like the story set in Bostonbetter than the Phoenix one. It had a much more choesive story line and didn't spend as much time covering pointless facts about the detectives personal lives
Joanne
this was a double book, disappointing for both Faye and Jonathan, don't enjoy many of their books,
he's too dark, and she's too blah
Hilary LiDestri
This is when I stopped reading Faye and Jonathan. Maybe I just need a break from Alex Delaware. I'll be back though. They are good.

It is pretty good! Cool getting two books in one - turn one way to read Double Homicide Santa Fe, the other to read Boston. Good stories.
Christina Sopko
Felt more like two quickly-finished stories than a book with two good sides. Still, the 'flip-me-upside-down' was pretty cool.
Kaylol
I liked the characters. And I loved having a book (or half one technically) that I could read in a couple of hours.
Shelli
I expected a joint effort murder mystery, what I got was two separate books with one cover. Very disappointed.
