Luna is a detective for the Nocturne police force. She is called out on a overdose, and she senses there is more to this overdose than meets the eye.
When she gets back to the squad house, she is called into the office with her now supervisor who lets her know she is not fond of Luna. Added on top of that, a new partner like a barbie doll and Luna is having a bad day.
luna starts finding out that her new partner has got some dark family secrets that are tied to the dead junky and other homicides s...more

The Nocturne City series is an urban fantasy novel set in the fictional city of Nocturne City. NC exists somewhere in the U.S. (as there's a mention from time to time of other places like San Francisco) but an alternate U.S. where werewolves and magic exist - no mention of vampires, though.

The protagonist, Luna Wilder, is a homicide detective with the Nocturne City PD as well as an Insoli, or packless, werewolf. She's a balls-to-the-wall, pedal-to-the-metal, quick-to-flare adrenaline junkie, so...more

There's a war brewing between caster witches and blood witches in Nocturne City, so it's a good thing that Luna Wilder is back on the force to take care of things. After she is almost killed by a junkie at a crime scene, she heads back to the department to find out there's a new boss in the precinct, Captain Matilda Morgan, who would love nothing more than to kick Luna to the curb. Luna is also paired up with a new bimbo of a partner, Shelby O'Halloran, whose perky attitude is enough to drive Lu...more

Let me say what I DON'T like from this story first. Luna, the heroine, irritates the HELL out of me. Sure, I find tough sarcastic heroines before but Luna's temper issues is just too much. I know that it is because she is a were, but my GOD, she is so quick in losing her temper and judging other people. I just want to enroll her to an anger management class or something. I wish the author realizes that being a BITCH doesn't mean the same as being tough.

Oh, and as much as Dmitri seems well, hot,...more

I've had this series laying around for a while now, and I tend to come back to it when I don't feel like reading anything else. I find these books to be a little slow to start, but once I'm hooked, they are very hard to put down. Pure Blood is the 2nd book in the Nocturne City series, and it holds up very well to the original (Night Life (Nocturne City, Book 1). Luna's life has not gotten any better since Night Life, and the book begins as she gets off of the medical leave she was forced to take...more

This is the second novel in the Nocturne City series and I enjoyed it more than I did the first book. Luna is a were who is a homicide detective. She has been outed, and everyone now knows that she is a were. This of course pisses her off. She has been assigned a partner by her new Captain. Luna is pissed because she doesn't want to work with anyone and her Captain could care less. The new partner is named Shelby, and she comes from a long line of witches, which doesn't endear her to Luna. Not o...more

I must have liked Pure Blood more than the first book in the series, because I can't fathom why it took me this long to get to it. It was fabulous. Luna makes for a great protagonist. It's hard to find a heroine that can pull off 'sassy' without being at least a little annoying and have a lot of problems without coming off whiney, but she manages in a big way. I felt all her frustrations and almost hurt for her when she was being physically hurt. Although she does get beaten, especially in the h...more

This is the second book in the Nocturne City series, and it really packed a punch.

Luna is a tough-as-nails homicide detective who also happens to be a werewolf. A werewolf without a pack. As you can imagine, things are a little rough for her. And after the events of NIGHT LIFE, she's left with certain scars. One of them happens to be the now demon-infected, Dmitri. He's taken off and left her alone, but when he returns, he does with some extra baggage. Add a string of murders that at first sight...more

Okay, I'm sorry, but Luna's constant tirades just crack me up. I'm not sure if they were meant to be funny at all but it's like this character is a parody of a hard-ass detective spiting out "tough-cop" lines for a SNL skit. The stuff that comes out of her mouth is so utterly stupid I can't believe the author means for us to take this character seriously. I've never rolled my eyes so much in my life. It's like the author's inspiration for her character was a mash up of every cheesy cop drama tha...more

It's been a few months since Luna's adventures in Night Life. Remember, her cousin has moved out, she's been outed as a Were to her fellow law officers, and Dimitri has been ordered away after being infected with a demon's bite. Luna is pretty low. She comes back to work only to be assigned a new partner who she can't stand and a new captain who can't stand Luna. Luna is restricted to "low-hanging fruit" type cases, but her first OD turns into something much more than what it seems.

The fact that...more

I read it and I read the third one as well, but I don't recommend that you do it. I kept thinking that because the magic was so interesting that there was some hope that there would be some character development. That perhaps Luna would learn something, but she doesn't. She doesn't grow or learn anything in books 1,2 or 3. She doesn't develop at all. In fact the reader learns nothing about why she has such a bad relationship with her family. No clues at all! After three books!

None of the charac...more

I liked this book a lot better than the first one. It took me forever to read it because I was caught up in writing my own stuff so it had nothing to do with the story or it being a bad book.

You really have to read the first one to totally get the second one. I think this story was far smoother and easier to read with Dmitiri hanging around in the background. I don't know what it is about him but I like him and the story is just better with him in it.

I did have to go back to the first book and r...more

It reminded me of Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan/Hollows series. Fast-paced, interesting alternate universe, relatively engaging characters for the most part. I think I would have enjoyed it better had I read the first book first, as I intended (but apparently failed to do, as I can't find the first book in my apartment right now). It's hard to be very invested in the consequences and character growth in the last book if you don't know what's going on. I'll update my review once I read the other b...more

Much better than Night Life. Luna is a bit more sympathetic in Pure Blood, and while she still rushes into situations without thinking, it seems more understandable.

I'm looking forward to reading the next one in this series, and curious to see how things develop (or not) with Dimitri.

Since the events of Night Life our heroine Luna Wilder a few things have changed. Luna has been on extended medical leave and is only now returning to her job as a homicide detective. Newspapers have outed her as a werewolf, a secret she had kept well hidden. She has a new female boss who is unimpressed with Luna’s personality and the way in which she conducts her investigations. To top it all off, she has a new partner who could pass for a Barbie doll.

Her first case which starts out as a routin...more

Unfortunately I didn't read the first book, therefore I felt a little lost. Learning the hard way, I do highly recommend reading the Nocturne City series in order. Falling into book 2, took some time — it was easy to catch up and follow along once I got to know the characters.

Luna is a homicide detective cracking down on an overdose victim. The mystery is intriguing and follows police protocol. Her werewolf side helps with her line of work, from having acute smell to chasing down suspects. She h...more

I’ve said before that I’m a fan of series books. I enjoy learning more about the world an author has created and the individuals residing there. But there is a downside to books in a series. What happens if you didn’t read the first one? Two? Three? Do you have to go get the earlier ones and read them all in order? (Don’t laugh! I have online friends who swear they won’t read series books out of order.) MUST you read the earlier books to underst...more

Holy Cow...someone pass the heroine a box of Kleenex.

Because she cried and whined (and bitched) her way through an entire book. Then she's all "I'm a tough independent Insoli (lone wolf) werewolf." Before she breaks down and cries how Dmitri left (to fix what's wrong with him). And when she wasn't crying she was an utter pain in the ass to anyone and everyone.

She's not tough. She's not kick ass. She's just...bitchy. She totally needs to chill.

I quite enjoyed this one. Though from Night Life, Dmitri falls into the category of the "hero" who the heroine has known for about 5 minutes and falls in love with, I didn't mind him so much in that book. In THIS one, I just wanted him to die. The crap with Irina was ridiculous and annoyed the hell outta me. Other than that, I liked this book quite well. I liked Shelby a lot too. I've got the next one on my shelf and ready to go.

Fast and fun. Dark and gritty. This is an amazing sequel to Caitlin Kittredge's first Nocturne City book, Night Life .

For the first fifty or so pages, Luna started to get on my nerves with her general b!tchiness, but I soon go back into the groove of Ms. Kittredge's world and her protagonist. I love how different Luna's world is from other Urban Fantasy books and it feels very real. Now I don't always like how Luna acts, but something about her is so true and raw, that I sympathize and root for...more

I thought that Pure Blood was a wonderful novel. The beginning with out Dmitri was kind of boring but there was still lots of action and magic. I thought that the revelation towards the end was under done. The relationship between Dmitri and Luna is a little lacking but as far as i can tell the majority of that appears in second skin so we can hope;). I would have liked to see more characterful development with Irina and Sunflower but i enjoyed how much Luna seemed to grow in this installment.

In terms of quality, this is on a level with (or possibly less than) the first book of the series. Luna is more likable in this book; sadly, Dmitri is not. The plot is so-so. Another good-not-great novel. I will continue to read the rest of this series, but I don't think it will be making my Favorites list anytime soon. I much prefer Kittredge's "Black London" series.

I like that book, good old crime solving with some supernatural stuff and romance. The only thing that gets a bit exhausting is Lunas temper, she's always right into your ways if something rubs her the wrong way. Let's see if that's going to change after she now settled a bit.

I'm still loving this series, just finished the second book and I love Luna she is such a character, her feelings towards her family and her past situations are what draw you in. Luna is a well rounded person with a go get em personality that you can't help but like.

I was happy to see Dmitri come back and see Sunny back in the second book. And with the new development of Luna's should make the future books just that much better..

It was a bit slow to start but dang it by the end I was dying to spend more time with Luna, I was genuinely concerned about the status of her relationship with Dmitri and pretty content that I was able to get a nice grasp of Nocturne even though I delved into the series in Book 2.
Love it.

thus far its pretty good considering i have not read the first of the series. just finished it, and it was good, but im not sure if its good enough for me to hunt down the others in the series and check them out.

Caitlin started writing novels at age 13. Her first was a Star Wars tie-in. Fortunately, she branched out from there and after a few years trying to be a screenwriter, a comic book writer and the author of copious amounts of fanfiction, she tried to write a novel again. Her epic dark fantasy (thankfully) never saw the light of day but while she was struggling with elves and sorcerers she got the i...more
