Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 14 (Fullmetal Alchemist #14)
Ed and Al come face to face with the "father" of the homunculi, who just so happens to be a dead ringer for their own father, Van Hohenheim--a resemblance too uncanny for coincidence. And later, when the allure of immortality proves to be too much for Prince Lin of Xin, he lets Greed take over...literally!

Intersting turn of events again. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the series, yet, but I'm on a rereading spree and I'm really surprised how well this series is holding up.
After a bit of a revelation/cliff hanger and fidning out the truth about the Ishval incident, the Homunculi and the "whereabouts" of Al's body, the brothers team up with Scar for a very short and uneasy truce. Lin - instead of being killed, takes in the Philospher's stone and his body is ...more

I really liked reading this one, it was a great read as usual! Ed, Envy and Lin manage to get out of Gluttony...with a very great price! Ed is by the Gate with the Truth...and he gets a chance to talk to Al's body!!
Then they meet a look-alike to their father, but this 'bearded guy' is actually the father and creator of the Homunculi! A great battle begins, Scar and May barge in. (Scar waned to rescue Xiao Mei the panda HAHAHA!)Suddenly, their transmutation skills are the only ones that can...more

"When I, who is called a "weapon" or a "monster", fight a real monster, I can fully realize that I am just a "human"."

In volume 14 the arrogance and greed of several of the main characters lands them all in way over their head. Colonel Mustang has discovered that the entire upper echelons of the military is complicit in the Fuhrer being a homunculus, what he thought was a winning hand turned out to be no where close and when he showed his cards he got his crew taken from him and split up, each sent in a different direction to the far corners of Amestris.

Okay, the problem with reading the 14th book in a series comes when you try not to repeat what you've said for the 13 previous books, especially if your goal is to not put in any plot-specific spoilers. This is what I will say: if a series is "pretty good," I'll read the first two books and then move on. I can think of about a dozen series that I'm two books into right now. ("Kinda good" will get me planning to read the 2nd book but never quite getting around to it.) So I'm s...more
I have in my notes for Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 14 by Hiromu Arakawa, "I want to give this a six." That would a six out of five stars. It's an intense volume full of humor, suspense and surprise.
In re-reading the earlier issues while I wait for the library to acquire volume 26, I can see that Arakawa dropped hints regarding the identity of Father. At the time of my first read, I was still thinking in terms of the pre-Brotherhood anime where all fingers could be pointed sq...more

Twists and turns come fast and furious in this volume as everyone becomes aware of just how powerful the homunculus conspiracy is and just who is or perhaps is not behind it.
You read that correctly. This volume, in many ways, changes the fundamental rules of this universe. We'll see in the long run whether it can stand this disbelief suspender stretch.

Lin goes loopy, and Ed is for some reason much hotter from here on out than he was in earlier volumes. ^^;; Roy and the Elric boys face extreme military corruption, and Scar starts to get enough character depth to actually be sympathetic, despite all the people he's killed.
I am starting to have to strain to keep track of things, and the plot continues to add extra layers and revelations that do not directly clear things up. It is as if once one question or issue is answered, two more points or mysteries are introduced. I do not mind this, but too much of this may spoil the series.
They're fighting Father and they ultimately lose. And Ling becomes Greed cause he's an idiot... and Ed and Al can't use their alchemy in that place anymore because of the father dude.

Omg, this serie just keeps getting better and better! How will I survive few months without knowing what happens to Elric' brothers?
And now I have to wait until I can find the 15th volume and beyond. *sigh*
I went blind of over exposure to pure awesomeness. ^-^
I love this series! ^-^
this book is awesome!

Action-packed, thickening plot, three-dimensional characters, and humor drizzled on each character, Fullmetal Alchemist is a book that should definitely be read by all. Left me with tears in my eyes and a warm heart for every character that you meet along Ed and Al's long journey.

Hiromu Arakawa, Fullmetal Alchemist, vol. 14 (ViZ, 2006)
Arakawa kind of pulls the sucker punch at the end of vol. 13, when we finally meet the homunculus leader, but things quickly turn interesting when the prince, tempted by the idea of immortality, allows Greed to take over his body. Things are certainly getting interesting in the world of FMA. Series is as strong as ever, perhaps stronger. ****
