Passing Through Paradise is a departure from Susan Wiggs' usual works. The novel delves into suspence that is immediately apparent from the start. What is constant and recognizable is Wigg's ability to evoke emotion and bring relevancy to relationships and family dynamics.
Although, having correctly identified the mystery early on, that fact did not discourage me from continuing. I was drawn to the characters and it was their personal journeys than discovering the mystery that capture...more

The story of a woman who's accused of murdering her husband, a well-liked politician in the small town of Paradise. His death has been found an accident, but the townspeople still consider her a murderer. Sandra is determined to fix up her broken down beach house and get the hell out of dodge.
This is normally the type of story I would steer clear of. It sounds like a murder/mystery--romantic suspense type-thing. I've read too many of those in my life to be interested in reading m...more

What I’ve always enjoyed about Susan Wiggs’ romance novels is the fact that she writes great male characters. Contrary to many other romance writers who follow the pattern of the conflicted, reluctant male love interest who needs 300 pages to come to his senses, Wiggs gives us men who are not ambiguous when they enter into a romance. So, yeah, it’s refreshing – really - to read about men who, when they give their heart, they really do, without doubt. Same goes for bringing to the page men who ar...more
I love Susan Wiggs writing! This novel pulled me into the lives of the characters as I found myself rooting for the main characters. Knowing there was 'something' behind what had happened added mystery and suspense. Heated emotions, searching for direction in life, moving forward, but held back by the past. Family dynamics with loss and hurt. Real life three-dimensional people that I cared for. Susan traided POV perfectly and I enjoyed the children's side brought into the picture at just t...more

This one was just a little to trite for me. I made it 25 pages before I gave it up. I just can't handle the story of the trophy wife whose husband was killed and everyone thinks she did it. And then the local hunk comes by to save her, bring her back to life, and redeem her in the eyes of the town. You just know that is what is going to happen and I am not up for it, this one just isn't for me.
I enjoyed reading this book (quick and easy beach book), but it is quite predictable from the beginning. When there is a twist, it is a bit over the top for me, but at least gives the book a little depth! Fun read.
Lovely tragedy/romantic story. You can see where the romance is going early in the book however, it takes 3/4 of the book to begin to figure out the details of the events that lead to the tragedy. Good enjoyable read.
A first read for me from Susan Wiggs and it did not disappoint. It was so well written that I simply couldn't put it down. I adore a good Epilogue which this story didn't have but the end wasn't bad
My grade: B+. The only reason this is not an A is because the part of the plot associated with her husband was so predictable. I suspect Wiggs never intended it to be a secret. What I loved was Sandy and Mike. Sandy is a complicated character, one who unhesitatingly sacrifices for the person she loves. Mike Malloy is just an awesome man. Quiet, strong, patient. A loving father and dog owner. I loved his kids, too. I would have liked to have an epilogue that included them.
It was a light, mindless escape...sometimes I just need fluff. With a tidy, completely unrealistic happy ending. This was it.
I really like this author. Good book. It's got a little of everything.
Not one of her best stories....but I do like how the locale is always part of the story line.
Nice, smooth story. Very likable characters. Even though this was one of her earlier books, it was still well written.
easy good predictable read.
This one was a little different than the rest of her books. You're hooked right from the beginning trying to figure out if the main character really did kill her husband. Yet, it's not a mystery, but a love story where the main man is also trying to find out whether the woman is guilty. A dead politician and his widow, a newly single dad with two kids and a bitch of an ex-wife -- everything you need to keep you reading!!
One of my favorites of her books.
I usually like Susan Wiggs books...this one NO! I figured out the story before even half way through...it was slow...it was boring...and it just left me with a blah feeling when I finished it. Waste of time...
Nooooot my favorite genre to read. Heavy-handed foreshadowing and overdone romance. BUT that's the point, so I can't fault the book for being true to its purpose! :) Little surprised me in the book, though I did laugh out loud several times when I was proved right, so there was comic value, I suppose.
Pretty good story but predictable. SW gives too many clues early on which make Victor's secret no surprise. But the story was enjoyable enough and it was a fast easy read. If we could give "half stars" I would have rated this 3.5; it just wasn't quite a 4 in my opinion.

Anyone who likes mysteries and the occasional "light" read.
I call this "beach reading." Passing Through Paradise was very easy reading, but I like to read these mysteries on occasion. I will say that it had its share of good twists to it, which made it fun and entertaining.
A pleasant enough read, easy to figure out what the twist was going to be, but that didn't detract from the enjoyment of the book. Will pick up something by her again when I want a feel good romance.
This book was great! I was pretty sure I had it figured out about halfway through, but still wanted to read it to confirm my suspicion, and see how it all panned out. I didn't want to put it down!
A woman goes back to her family home to tie up loose ends and sell the house after going thru some tough times with her ex and falls in love with the contractor working on the house. Easy read.
This was a quick read and quite enjoyable....if you haven't read any of Susan Wiggs books do yourself a favor and pick one up today.
Good book, great story. I wasn't expecting to get into the story as much as I did.
great story. with a surprise twist.
I liked it. But I like all her books.
