Again, with Pandora Hearts pushing forward, the strength of the series astounds me. I'm not sure how Jun Mochizuki can keep the story moving in such a way that brings the reader closer to the characters, but it really works. Despite only having two different titles under his belt, Mochizuki really seems to know what he's doing.

In volume four, there is a lot of story development. A lot. There's so much going on in the story that it's a little hard to keep up with, but that's alright. We get to se

This story... It never fails to surprise me just how incredibly complex it can be. Mochizuki-san is an incredible author. I couldn't for the life of me be able to ever create something so intricate as this story.

Okay, that bit's over. Let me just express my love for this series. Awesome plot line and awesome characters.

And my favorite character. Oh yes, the ever eccentric and lovely: Xerxes Break.

Xerxes is literally the most fun character and his strangeness makes him so intriguing, especially w

"To me...Alice's existence...is like the sun...I guess? And I find that...very dazzling. That light of hers hurts my eyes, but...but...it still warms me. I don't have any powers, so I probably can't be Alice's knight. But...I'd like to see it through."

Awwwww that was too cute and romantic for me. I fangirl'd so hard.

*Ahem* SO, we meet the Cheshire Cat!! And boy is he awesome. Gil's fear of cats obviously made him freak when he sees him. After he shoots him: "O-of course he regenerates right away

3.5 Lewis Carroll references.

I followed along with this one reeeeally well, up until the last 20 pages, and then I was lost, man, But I re-read over that section roughly six times and think I'm a little more on top of things now.

It's rare to get a manga series this coherent. I hope it lasts.

If volume #4 was all about family, then volume #5 is about alienation from family, by focusing on the isolation Alice feels. It also hints that memories can be distorted, twisted, and can't always be trusted.

There is so much depth in this series, I really feel inadequate in writing anything about it. Whole essays can be written about the interactions, and I'm not understating that. So much of it is subtle. It kind of reminds me of th

My mental voice for Alice is Toph's voice actress.

I'm learning you have to be very observant with this series. The little details matter. With that in mind, I am really starting to enjoy this series! Oz, Gil, Alice, Break, and co. are growing on me exponentially, and the mystery is becoming more appealing.

Just got volumes 4-12 today so yay! Thanks barns and Noble sale! :)

Love this series! An amazing story with great characters, (oz & Gil are my favorites. I ship it so hard!) An incredibly complex fantasy plot, & stunningly detailed artwork. :) almost as good as "black Butler" artwork. (My favorite manga ever!)

Also love the bits of humor tosses in to help take a bit -but not to much- of the edge of the creepy seriousness of the Cheshire Cat's domain.

There a lot going on in this installme

Drawn into the realm of the Cheshire Cat, neither Earth nor the Abyss, the group gets to find out something new. It turns out that Cheshire rules that realm as he is unique much like Alice and does not need a contractor. Also, the realm that he rules he more so....protects. From what or who isn't much made clear, but it is clear what he is protecting- memories. This realm is a place of bad memories, Alice's bad memories. Cheshire is to protect them, even from Alice herself. In fact, it is made c ...more

Ah another interesting chapter in Pandora Hearts. This time round it would seem that we have gone further down the rabbit whole. This time we do get some answers which is good cause I was starting to wonder if any of this crazy store.

First off is the name of the stranger man that has been in Alice memories. Come to find out its someone who looks like Oz. Which makes me wonder if Alice is related to Oz or that she is married into the Vessalius. Though what we do know now is that the city that Al

Mmm...I think Xerxes Break has officially become my favorite character. Well...tied with Gil, at the very least.

(view spoiler)

Pandora Hearts, Vol. 4 is leaps and bounds better than the past three volumes combined. The tone has darkened and it's quickly spiraling down the creepy, psychedelic rabbit-hole... and I am digging every freaky second of it. This volume does a fantastic job of balancing the macabre with heartwarming moments with just enough of silly humor sprin

In volume four of Pandora Hearts we get some questions answered…and some more questions. Jun Mochizuki, do you like doing this to my mind? Oh, and look at that cover. Sharon looks so very lovely…

We get to see some pretty awesome things in this volume. The big three(Oz, Gil, and Alice) and Break are spirited away into another dimension! This is not the Abyss but a completely separate one controlled by the Cheshire Cat. The dimension is surreal, creepy, and beautifully drawn. When in the dimension

Alice, Break, Oz and Gil find themselves in a dimension created by Alice's memories. They soon get separated and we meet a certain cat with a not so friendly grin. Well this one adds more questions as to what's going on? What exactly is the history behind Alice's memories and the mysterious figure that looks a little bit like...Good volume and the to be continued ending.

4.5/5 Stars

This series is so complex, and you can just tell there's so much more to the story that has yet to come to light. I have confidence that the series will continue to unfold well. It's definitely a narrative built on emotion and driven by its characters, and I'm most certainly addicted. I don't even know how I'm alive right now; the need to continue on is stifling.

Four volumes in to Pandora Hearts now, and I'm still intrigued. The characters are very good, the art is beautiful (or beautifully disturbing when the story turns dark at times), and I am loving the complex world-building going on. I can see myself rereading this series in the future, enjoying being able to understand the significance of certain details and events which right now I know are significant but I don't know why they are so.

Unfortunately, my library only has through volume 4, but so l

Another good volume, and this one has a lot of action. We knew that many of the Pandora characters had contracts with chains and here we get to see some of them, which is nice as some of the secondary characters get to shine. This volume also feels like its the first major threat that the characters have faced, so that's exciting. I really like the art in this series, especially the emotion in facial expressions. My favorite scene of the volume was when Oscar finally gets a chance to talk to the ...more

The whole revamping of Alice in Wonderland into a dark and twisted manga following a Boy named Oz and an chain named Alice (B Rabbit) definitely caught my eye when searching for a new manga to read. The art work is astounding and I fell in love from page one. Not just that, but the chilling mystery behind Oz and what he is truly guilty of does peck at my skin, the anticipation of knowing the secret haunts me every time I read :) A truly

Best volume so far. Still only gets a three star rating from me, but it's a very solid three. Much more action and a longer plot thread make it feel more cohesive than the previous three volumes, which scrambled to introduce characters and factions without going into too much detail about any of them. This is also the first volume to give us a clear answer to one of the mysteries it teased at earlier. While I would like to continue with this series, it isn't high on my priorities list. Still, if ...more

Pandora Hearts #4 by Jun Mochizuki

I probably chose the wrong time to read this. It was a tad confusing and the surgery meds didn’t help.

Uncle Oscar is back. Unfortunately Alice gets caught in the Cheshire cat’s trap taking Oz, Gil and Break with her. It gets very surreal and Alice might have willingly given up the memories she’s trying to find now. And just who is the unknown man in her memories. I’m not sure what to think of this one but it didn’t grip me quite as much as past ones.
