On Rough Seas is a great book for the history enthusiast in any family, whether young or not so young! A new book, I thought that it had a lot of potential for a "boy read", but honestly it just didn't do it for me. The jacket description sounds great... A 14 year old British boy at the height of WW2. Unfortunately, it is very slow moving. There is a bit of action in the first and second chapter, but not again until the 18th or 19th chapters. It also didn't help that the author wrote all of the dialog true to the time and place. (yes, this is normally a good thing, but here it just...more
Rough Seas is the story of 14 yr old Alec Curtis who feels trapped by the life that his father has planned for him, and by the tradgic death of his younger cousin. Alec struggles to prove himself to his demanding father in the early stages of WW2, until he finds that he must defy his parents wishes in order to find himself.
