Willimon's book aims to encourage ministers to preach the gospel, to evangelize, not by catering to the congregations perceived needs or wants, but according to the demands of God's intrusive word. The book is full of sharp commentary and sermons. While I cannot say I agree with all of his exegesis (the short sermons included are not the most interesting part of the book for me), his commentary is a challenge and a delight.

William Henry Willimon is a bishop in the United Methodist Church who currently serves in North Alabama. One of America's best known preachers, he formerly served as Dean of the Chapel at Duke University and taught at Duke Divinity School.
