Robert Owen, born in the second half of the 18th century in the United Kingdom, encouraged the radical reform of society. He became leader of the movement known as Owenism, which is, sadly, largely forgotten today. John Fletcher Clews Harrison (born 1921) is Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Sussex.
