CIP: Staying with Granma while Mama takes a job in Chicago during World War II, Ada Ruth misses her mother, who loves her more than rain or snow.
I was kind of let down after reading the story. It seemed kind of blah after seeing that it was on an award list. I din't get a wow factor. Although it is a well written and soothing story for young children about being separated from parents/family. I think it would be ideal for preschoolers through 1st or 2nd.

Jacqueline Woodson tells the story that lets the U.S. know that Rosie the Riveter was not only white but she came in every beautiful shade of brown. This book is quite special to me because my grandmother and aunt both worked in the Tank arsenal in Detroit during that time. Thanks Jackie for remembering these brown beautiful women that too help win the war!

This book got my kids thinking and asking lots of questions. It helped spur a conversation that enlightened my children and for that it was an interesting read.

the story line is simple, but it contains more than picture and words.
