Love, love, love it! Peke the adorable Pekingese has a boo-boo. That's a cast he's wearing, not a pirate's peg leg! Despite his injury, Peke has imaginative fun pretending to be a pirate seeking hidden treasure.

I feel like a girly-girly with nothing important to bring to the table for this review of Peg Leg Peke. This book is so adorable, sweet, cute, darling, and perfectly simple that it reduces me to cooing and other noises more appropriate in regards to a human baby than a picture book about an imaginative Pekingese. Regardless, I am enamored with this debut from Spangler. Peke has broken his leg and is now stuck in a cast, which has needless to say dampened his spirits. However, the narrator points

This is a charming book about a cute little pekingese with a "boo boo." An unseen companion, helps the little guy imagine that instead of a cute dog with a broken leg, he is an adventurous pirate with a peg leg. With some help, he sails away and finds a treasure which makes him feel better. The illustrations are sweet and the text, told in a Mo Willems' like dialog is engaging and funny.

A bit of a twist on the pirate theme - a Pekingese puppy with its leg in a cast talks with the "reader" and becomes a pirate looking for treasure, which turns out to be a snuggly blanket. I like the conversation between the book character and the reader. This could be cute for a paired reading, and for a storybox.

Clearly a Mo Willems-inspired book. We/you/the narrator speak directly the the little pekingese who has broken his leg and is wearing a cast. The narrator decides he looks like a pirate, and so a pretend adventure ensues. A cute little book, but not overly interesting or exciting.

I stumbled upon this book by accident. I was looking for pirates books for my first storytime ever. Read it, Loved it! And I have a Pekingese too :)
P.s. Also show this book to my husband who loved it as well

"dogs, broken bones, casts, pirates, pretending, very funny, narrator voice & character voice, as character imagines his cast is a peg leg, more colors added"

I had to put this review up since I know that Katy and Jack will love it as much as me and Hank. Yar!

A little too cute for my tastes, but if the kids at Storytime like it, I'm all for it.

Cute book! Peke is adorable and the narrator's voice is fun, but you might have to explain to younger kids who's talking to Peke, as he's alone in the illustrations. Potentially a bit confusing, but fun to read. And did I mention how cute Peke is??

A Pekingese pup breaks his leg, but the author thinks he looks like a pirate. Along that theme, the author helps the dog forget his discomfort while searching for a buried treasure.
Short text and author-character dialog remind me of Willems' pigeon books.

Great, fun children's book!
Peke the Pekingese has a boo-boo. Despite his injury, Peke has imaginative fun pretending to be a pirate seeking the best treasure of all!

Such a cute book! This reminds me a little bit of the Mo Willems Pigeon books, because the readers gets to talk/interact with peg leg peke in the text of the book.

Super cute book about a dog with a broken leg who pretends to be a pirate. How cute is it when a broken leg is repeatedly referred to as a boo boo?
