It’s a beautiful day for a regatta—until one of Sandhamn Island’s most prestigious residents is killed aboard his sailing yacht.

Oscar Juliander was a rich lawyer and deputy chairman of the prestigious Royal Swedish Yacht Club. While at first his death seems like a tragic accident, there is evidence of foul play. Police detective Thomas Andreasson teams up with local lawyer

This is another "Sandhamn Murders" mystery, "Closed Circles". It is the second after "Still Waters" by Viveca Sten. Revolving around sail boats, different Island's in the Stockholm Archipelago, and nasty characters. Thomas Andreasson is the Detective Inspector, Nora Linde is the lawyer of a bank and friend to Thomas since childhood. These are the main characters that Viveca utilizes in her stories. I should say that the protagonists are regular people, but the situations that they get into are ...more

The second of the Sandhamn murder series was a fast read, engrossing, engaging, believable. The two main characters are Thomas, a homicide detective, and his best friend, Nora, who helps him solve cases. Set in Sweden, one can almost smell the sea air of the archipelago.

First book I've read by this author. Definitely not the last. Love the island, vacation setting in Sweden.

Another 5* out of 5 for this author. Another super story and hardly an error throughout, more confusion. Once again it kicked off with a lot of sailing stuff but again she saves it in time from becoming too much, if, like me, you've no interest in sailing whatsoever.
Nora didn't seem to feature quite as much in this book though her hubby continues to act like a prize sh*t !! Mind you, Thomas wasn't being a very nice gentleman as much in this story, either.
There was also no mention of IKEA. That's

This follows on nicely from the first in the series. While the crime opens up a whole new raft of characters through the Yacht Club setting, there are background developments in the relationships of the detectives and also the characters affected by the crime investigated in the first book. We share the frustration of the team as evidence is slow in coming and only solid slog and meticulous attention to detail yields, eventually, results.

I like the way the background of affluence creates tensio

This book is slightly better than the first one because that book had an excessively melodramatic ending. This book stays more on an even keel, but does wander into more emotional waters for Nora and her husband, which does overwhelm the mystery. In addition, Thomas Andreasson has developed a relationship with someone who asks for more than he can give. Am not sure why authors write so much 'emotion' for their detectives nowadays unless it's to divert attention from the mystery. Big mistake! ...more

This book was very intriguing. I would highly recommend it. Excellent characters and amazing descriptions of Sweden. Read book 1 first.

Really interesting book by Swedish author, the second in a series by her that I have read. I love the characters and the setting, the Swedish archipelago. Totally recommend this.

Rich Swedish guy driving his yacht is shot at the same time as the starter’s pistol goes off for a boat race. I’m liking this already.
As expected, this book follows the murder investigation, but also delves into the private lives of the lead detective and includes several other plots that really have nothing to do with the main story, in fact could have been separate stories on their own. One in particular seems to come out of the previous book in the series, which I have not read, and is there

A very good follow story

A very good second book in this series which I thoroughly enjoyed, and with hopes that it won't be too long before book number three becomes available. A good plot which kept my interest right the way through.
I like all the characters, except of course Nora's nasty husband Henrik who I dislike intensely. He comes across as utterly selfish, condescending and patronising, whose only aim in life is money and possessions, and who always gets his own way in everything. Dump hi

This second Sandhamn novel from Viveca Sten is as enjoyable as her first, "Still Waters." Like the first, this one too is set on the island of Sandhamn in the Stockholm archipelago, and it features many of the same characters... but with two new murders for Thomas Andreasson and his team to investigate. Thomas' friend Nora Linde is there, this time to lend a hand regarding some legal and banking matters... especially in regards to how Oscar Juliander, a bankruptcy attorney, was able to afford ...more

A nice, easy summer read. I enjoy series books. The characters are like old friends. This helps because the author doesn't have to spend as much time on background. There are references to the first book, but these are not necessary to understand this one. In this tale we are treated to another murder. The circumstances surrounding it are inventive. It had me guessing until the answer was revealed. I'm not one of those people who pores over a book, trying to figure everything out beforehand. If ...more

I really enjoyed this second outing to Sandhamn, Sweden. The story begins with a bang--literally. At the beginning of one of Sweden's most prestigious yacht races, the captain of one of the boats is shot and killed in front of hundreds of spectators, several police officers and tv cameras. Detective Inspector Thomas Andreasson, present as a spectator at the event, winds up with the responsibility of investigating a multi-millionare's death. As with the first book, the murder mystery is ...more

My thanks to Netgalley, Amazon Crossing and Viveca Sten for providing an ARC of Closed Circles in return for an unbiased review. The murder of the captain of a boat at the starting line of the Round Gotland race has the police stumped. Thomas and Nora delve deeply into the victim's background, but weeks later they still have no idea. Then a second murder is committed - will they find the killer? Frustrated with both the case and their private lives, both of them are under enormous pressure. ...more

Rivera Sten You "ROCK"

I like this author and the 2 books I have read written by her because they are "light". Not heavily dragged down by unnecessary filthy language and torrid sex. Viveca is a woman with wonderful scruples. Makes me wish I'd been born and raised in beautiful Sweden and had been allowed to raise a family there. I might even gotten used to all the fish dishes. Seriously though...the shocking deaths and subsequent solutions on the part of Thomas and Margit while Nora describes the

Swedish mystery series - Sandhamn Murders. Read this one in print. I listened to the previous book in the series, and I preferred that translator's style. (One example from this book: starting two consecutive sentences with "But"? This constant annoyance brought my rating down to 2.5 or 3.)

I like Viveca Sten's storytelling: police procedural, going day-by-day through the investigation. I also enjoy learning a little more about Sweden.

A good one nighter

I enjoy a good mystery. I enjoyed book 2 even more than book 1 which I read quickly. I was into book 1 after a few chapters. With book 2 I was in from the start. I needed an update on the characters. I wanted to know more about them and what they were doing. The characters are strong, loyal, educated and flawed...normal.
The plot held my interest. The resolution was expected and satisfying.

Good but not as good.

I was disappointed in the second book. She spends too much time on the family stuff when she could have spent the time on making the suspense better. It was even left open for more of the family stuff eg. Did she eventually sell the house and fix her marriage?? If it was left open for the next book, I will never know because I will not waste my time on reading another.

A well-thought out plot that keeps you guessing about the killer of a rich and greedy boat captain. The detective characters were interesting and the chapters were well-written. The ending has a surprising twist. I liked Sten's writing style and I enjoyed reading this book. I will definitely look forward to reading her series.
Thank you to Good Reads and Viveca Sten for giving me the opportunity to read a good mystery.
