This novel is a modern twist of Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth is a busy Attorney who comes face to face with a bored, stuffy Judge Darcy. From then on sparks fly. I love how the author put the characters from Pride and Prejudice with almost the same characteristics into this story. My favorite lines from the story: Referring to his name plate Hon. F. Darcy, "what does the F.stand for?" she asked. "What do you think it stands for?" he countered. "Do you really have any doubt what I think it stan...more
Judge Darcy of San Francisco is well-respected in the courtroom, but longs for his life of a gentleman back in England, Pemberley to be exact. Elizabeth is also well-respected, only she’s still a relatively new lawyer in Darcy’s courtroom. Darcy’s haughty demeanor turns off Elizabeth, but Darcy feels a growing attraction for the saucy Elizabeth. What begins as a short-term fling turns complicated as the professional legality of their personal relationship is questioned.

Well... this is kind of a story that's either aimed to please or aimed to REALLY annoy! LOL
Obviously, this is the same story/Character structure just set in modern times:
*Darcy- powerful judge (still a pompous ass)
*Elizabeth- Attorney (hates her boss. Been there done that. See DARCY description above for "why")
*Charles & Jane- both are Doctors (Well... THAT makes sense, not really but whatever...)
*Jane and Elizabeth's parents are weed smoking hippies- (NOW THAT REALLY MAKES SENSE!)

I saw the blurb for this book and knew I had to have it. I love Jane Austen spinoffs. I'm sure there are Austen purists googling my address now with pitchforks and torches in hand, but I can't help it - I'm a sucker for a spinoff! I guess it's just that I love her works so much I don't want them to be done...or something like that. This book did not disappoint. It's hard to review because there was a lot going on - this storyline just keeps moving (in a good way!).

I received a free review copy of this book from the publisher.
Judge Fitzwilliam Darcy is seriously contemplating packing up and leaving California to return to his estate in England when Elizabeth Bennet walks into his courtroom. Her quick wits (and of course her fine eyes) soon make an impression on Darcy - both professionally and personally - but the ethical problems of a relationship between the two of them cause plenty of difficulty.

If you ever wondered what would happen to Lizzie Bennet in the modern world -- the advantages she'd have, the clothes she'd wear, the career path she would choose -- you'll love this book. I can't say that it's been a huge question for me, but I liked seeing what Sara Angelini imagined for her and the others. Jane is a surgeon, Darcy a judge, Bingley a businessman, Caroline a real estate shark. P &P is the inspiration for Angelini's story, but she only uses it as a springboard. From there, k...more

The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy was a delightful story that kept me entertained throughout the entire read. This contemporary twist on Pride and Prejudice was quite enjoyable.
Elizabeth and her sister Jane were portrayed as smart professional women who were independent yet still yearned for romance and love. I admit that the book started off a little slow and should I say boring. But I kept on reading, I had a feeling that it would only get better. And I'm happy that I did, because guess what, it did get better. Way better!
I enjoyed the modernization of Pride and Prejudice, and I liked the author didn't follow the format of the original story. Because it added originality to the book. I enjoyed seeing Darcy as a judge, and Elizabeth as a lawyer and I loved their sparing. And knowing that they would...more

What a disappointment! When I look for Jane Austen spin-offs, I like them to have substance, clean language, and tasteful displays of affection. This book has none of these things. The characters were mere caricatures of the original book with some of them not even remotely like the original. Most of the book is set in the San Francisco area--England is a sideline. Jane and Bingley are surgeons??? So bizarre. And why is Elizabeth's best friend a gay Mr. Hurst? Lizzy's hatred of Darcy changed ove...more
The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy by Sara Angelini is loosely based upon Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. Fitzwilliam Darcy is the youngest judge appointed to the bench of San Francisco and Meryton is not a town in England, but a town outside of San Francisco, California. Elizabeth Bennet is an attorney with Gardiner & Associates, and the lead attorney is not her uncle Mr. Gardiner, but her boss. California has laws about fraternization between judges and attorneys who work on the sam...more
In this re-imagining, Darcy is a judge and Elizabeth a lawyer in the same district. Its hot and steamy, and I thought it was a great story line for a romance, but I found the sex scenes a bit forced or awkward. Overall it was generally good and enjoyable.
I loved the characters, but I didn't think they were very much like Elizabeth and Darcy at all. Even Jane and Bingley were vastly different people. I liked the characters, they were quirky, witty, and fun. They shared names and Pemberley was sti...more

Love the idea of this book, modern spin on Pride & Prejudice, how would Elizabeth and Darcy be with 22nd century sensibilities. At times I think the author really pulled it off and I found myself laughing. Other times it was a facepalm and walking away from the book for a while so the characters could rethink the cheese they just said (hint: they didn't, but then again they never do).

Since when do regular libraries start carrying such explicit sexual novels and passing them off as regular books without so much as a warning of any sort?!! I'm a firm believer that books should have ratings just like movies, and this book is proof of that. Beyond Rated R if possible. After I realized what I had gotten myself into, I was immediately disappointed and had to put the book down shortly after starting it. But curiosity got the best of me and I ended up briefly skimming the rest just...more
Ok, so here's the deal. I liked this book. I did. But ONLY by itself. On its own The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy is a nice, light read. No emotional investment at all.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a modern rendition of Pride & Prejudice do NOT read this book. It barely follows the original plot at all, so much so that it's pretty much a story with the same character names. I'll give you an example: Elizabeth father is mentioned maybe three times, and Lydia, arguably the sour...more

What You Need to Know Before Reading The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy:
1. This book is not Pride and Prejudice.
2. The text and conversation can, at times, feel awkward and stilted, because it seems that Sara Angelini is under the mistaken illusion that British people rarely, if ever, use contractions.
3. This book is not Pride and Prejudice.
4. Go into this book with an open mind. If you are like me and love Pride and Prejudice a ridiculous amount, you need to go into this book knowing it i...more

When I saw yet another P&P spin-off on the shelf at Books-a-million near the original Jane Austen that I love, I was adamantly against reading it. Especially since it had pink on the cover. Don't get me wrong, I love "chick lit" as much as the next closet romantic, but I don't see Austen's Elizabeth as pink-loving type of girl. I was still intrigued by the book and read the first page. Darcy's quip, "For God's sake, Bingley, it's an Italian super car! If you're afraid to drive it, buy a Hond...more
This is a modern telling of the story Pride and Prejudice. The names were the same as well as some plot points. This was exactly what I thought it would be, a little different but still had some similarities. Some reviewers were upset that it wasn't more like P&P. But they forget that it's a modern telling, wasn't supposed to be the same.

I ended up really liking this book. I started it once before and set it aside, but picked it up again last week.
This is a modern day pride and prejudice. Names are the same, but set in 2012ish. Very cute story about a young judge (Darcy) who fins himself attracted to a lawyer who appears before him (Lizzy). Jane, a surgeon, begins dating Bingley, also a surgeon. Caroline, Bingley's sister, also plays a role in the story as Darcy's friend with benefits.

The stars say it all. It was okay.
I've always been curious about how Elizabeth and Darcy's story would translate into modern times so I picked this up. I don't think it worked so well. It was almost like they could've been anyone. They didn't have to be Elizabeth and Darcy.

I loved this modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice, it actually is more that the author took all the characters and put them into her own book with similar roles. I thought it was fabulous and to quote another review, "“Delicious! It is finger-licking, lip smacking, delicious... definitely my favorite modern re-telling of Pride and Prejudice to date.” (Bella McGuire A Bibliophile's Bookshelf )" It is sexy, for some too much, but that is why it differed from other sequels and attracted me more....more
I love Pride and Prejudice, the book and movie. AND Colin Firth! ; )
So I had reservations about a book based on P&P. But I loved this one! The character development was thorough, even the secondary characters. It was also humorous (I loved Mrs. Bennet and Lou) but heartfelt.
I especially love books that give both main characters' thought processes, showing their emotions. The only thing I can think of that was 'wrong' with this story is that Darcy lost his backbone towards the end. That isn'...more

I was curious about this one, touted as "A thoroughly modern adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice", with Darcy as a judge, and Elizabeth Bennet as a trial lawyer. Hmm. Liked the idea, wasn't sure how it would play out.

The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy is a modernized version of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth Bennett is a lawyer and she represents her clients often times before Judge Fitzwilliam Darcy. Lizzie's first impression of Judge Darcy is not a good one. She thinks he is a stuffy bastard and wants nothing to do with him. Darcy on the other hand is intrigued by Ms. Bennett and is quite shocked by her dismissal of him. Fate has other plans for these two as they keep running into each othe...more

Fitzwilliam Darcy, a wealthy Englishman, is one of the youngest judges appointed in the county of Meryton, California. Yet four years into his term finds him overworked, restless, and dissatisfied. After her first trial with Judge Darcy presiding, Elizabeth comes to the conclusion that with his supercilious, aloof, and formidable behavior Judge Darcy is the last man in...more
Gone are the days of petticoats and carriages. In the century of the business suit and BMW, romance is a whole different story…or is it? Sara Angelini gives us a hilarious retelling of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, but from a modern stand in THE TRIALS OF THE HONORABLE F. DARCY.

This book began with the great promise of Austen's P and P with all the requisite mistaken identities and witty repartee of the classic but descended all too soon into a frustrating literary melange that included too few laughs, too many detailed scenes of intimacy,(with so many references to the fresh, clean body smells of pear and moss that I almost gagged),and too little information provided about the book's secondary characters to keep the plot moving forward and maintain this reader's inter...more
I am a sucker for anything Pride and Prejudice, and this modern day setting intrigued me. Unfortunately, it was not nearly as good as the original. I wasn't expecting much, but the thought that Charles Bingley was a pediatric surgeon was hard to believe as was the fact that Georgiana had problems with drugs and sex in her teens. The author would have done better by not using the same names as the original story. Very fast read, and I would not recommend this to those whole love Jane Austen!
I really enjoyed this bit of Austen-inspired fiction, and I probably would not have read it, if we were not celebrating the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice. I like the transfer of the characters to 21st-century America, Elizabeth and Darcy as lawyers, the humor of our hero and the basic plot (which remained essentially Austen's). I did not, however, relish the language or the speed with which Elizabeth reversed her opinion about Darcy. Still it was quite entertaining and fun to read, an...more
This book was fantastic! Modern-day Pride and Prejudice, where Darcy is a judge and Lizzy is a young lawyer who appears before him, and she hates him. Mistaken identity at a Halloween party, a business conference in London, and boom--they get together but Lizzy struggles with the whole internal professional conflict issues. Maybe I just loved this because I'm a lawyer, but I thought it was fantastic, angsty, smutty fun--and Darcy is still a Brit :)
