This book has a ton of delicious & unusual ice cream recipes (as well as granitas, sorbets and sherbets). They are, almost exclusively, French/custard-style - this means that you have to cook a custard, chill it, and then freeze your ice cream. This is not as difficult as you may initially think while reading the instructions, it simply requires you to be on top of things and able to multitask well in the kitchen (or otherwise get everything set up before you start). A handful of flavors are...more

It feels somehow a little inappropriate to review a cookbook alongside these novels and things, and it's not like I've read this thing from cover to cover, but - I love this book. The four recipes I've made from it have turned out beautifully, the writing is friendly and fun, and it's reliably inspirational to flip through. Also, the author has a blog I recommend checking out: www.davidlebovitz.com, on cooking generally and the culinary life in Paris specifically.

A bit beyond the typical Goodreads scope, but oh my oh my, this book has led me to make the best ice cream. I mean the BEST ice cream I've had in my life--the Aztec "Hot" Chocolate Ice Cream--and I even omitted the brandy. I am eager to try the many traditional flavors and the likes of Olive Oil Ice Cream or Pear Pecorino Ice Cream or Fresh Fig Ice Cream. I can also vouch for the superiority of their granitas--my favorite--Pink Grapefruit!

We recently got a gelato/ice cream maker, which churned out the most amazing mint ice cream from this book. A pale silky green, the ice cream packs an impressive undertow of mint flavor.
Gorgeous photos and meticulous instructions make this book a stand-out. And the recipes range from plain vanilla to malted chocolate to the stand-out mint. One of my favorite dessert cookbooks.

My foodie friends and food blogs the world over have been crowing about this book. I recently received an ice cream machine and immediately bought this book for myself. This is the ice cream book for me: Guinness-milk chocolate ice cream, raspberry-rosé sorbet, Aztec "hot" chocolate ice cream, lavender-honey ice cream...

No kidding, this book actually has easy to make recipes of creamy, not grainy, beautiful home made ice cream. The scoop provides the classic stand by flavors, and ventures toward the sublime: Aztec Hot Chocolate flavor, green tea and the exquisite fig ice cream.

A beautiful book with chapters on ice cream, sherbert, granitas, sauces, MIX-INS, and vessels. I can make a frozen custard now that I've read this book, before it was just scrambled egg bits floating in hot milk!

Make these yummy recipes with a KitchenAid ice cream bowl (you place the bowl in the freezer until it's FRIGID, snap it onto the mixer base, add the custard, and presto-change-o, ice cream!)

If you want ice cream recipes this is the book for you. The only recipe I actually made was the White Chocolate ice cream, which was very good, incredible rich and dense.

I now have trouble buying ice cream from the grocery store after having made several batches at home from the excellent recipes in this book!

Cool cookbook, lots of good technique and interesting recipes (for instance, he explains the use of cornstarch in ice cream).
