A remarkable book and very informative. I particularly like the eyewitness accounts of people who survived torture and concentration camps. This is a very thorough book and not too terribly long. It is certainly worth reading if you are interested in the history.
This is a much more general history than Crankshaw. This one has lots of photos. There is also some unintentional humor in having so many interviews with survivors who were Communists. I guess their complaint was that they were on the wrong end of the jackboot. They did a good job of taking over the torture chambers after the war. On the whole this is good but not great. It does have better background on the major players, Himmler, Heydrich, Diels, Barbie etc.
