I love the way this woman writes, so descriptive and I find myself reading lines over and over again. Interesting story about a friend who leaves all her friends and boyfriend and never comes back and the discovery of why and what happened. about to start her next one straight away.

Despite the predicatibility of the plot, I really enjoyed this. The characterization is fabulous. You don't have to like the people in the story - some are more likeable than others - but the detail with which they are drawn is just great. The basis of the story is two friends who swear they'll be friends forever, and suddenly aren't. One just walks out of the other's life and disappears. Around 18 years later, the MC of the story sees the friend on a news item - not giving away anything here, t...more

It wasn't the story I expected. So I don't know if that's the reason I found it slow or a little disjointed to begin with. Nevertheless.....

Two girls make a promise that they will be best friends even when they are 90. Something happens and suddenly, one of them just disappears. The other is left wondering for years what happened and why did her friend leave and does her friend continue not to make contact. Suddenly, a random sighting on the news, leads the left behind to search out her friend a...more

this book was quite hard to get into. It took me a few weeks of picking it up, putting it down etc etc to actually get to the main story.

I guess once you got into the meat of the plot, it was a tad predictable, but the characterisation was still well done, the adults more so than the youths involved and it was an interesting scenario to explore each character's views and feelings.

Wouldn't be a mind blowing novel, but it was still a good read and has enough emotional depth to keep people satisf...more

Nicci Gerrard writes terrific psychological suspense thrillers with her husband Sean French. As Nicci French they have written a few books I have enjoyed immensely, particularly Killing Me Softly. On her own, Gerrard is a thoughtful and talented writer, generally concerned with the minutia of daily life and the relationships which both trouble and sustain us.

So I’m going to blame the fact that I didn’t love Nicci Gerrard’s third novel The Moment You Were Gone on the fact that August was a bit of...more

This is my second Nicci Gerrard book and now I'm determined to read everything she has written. I love her characters and love reading about their lives.

Interesting plot that ends with a whimper. However, most of the characters are uninteresting and has undramatic outcomes. Oh dear.
Erin
Interesting story line. I enjoyed reading this book and once the story began to pick up, it was hard to put down.

Very slow read. Much prefer the Nicci French books which are thriller type books.
Nina
A bit boring, especially in the end.
