Bound by Shadow is the first book in a paranormal romance trilogy series about a Sibyl triad, kick-ass warrior priestesses that belong to the Dark Crescent Sisterhood, who control and wield the powers of the elements (earth, fire, and air) to fight evil. Sibyls are tough chicks in leather who worship the goddess and are trained to use their elemental powers, a vast arsenal of weapons, and various forms of hand-to-hand combat to battle the Legion. "Bound by Shadow" is the first book in Anna Windsor's new series, 'the Dark Crescent Sisterhood'. There are at least two other books TBR "Bound by Flame" in Aug08 and "Bound by Light" in Sep08. It would be easy for Windsor to draw out this contemporary paranormal series as her heroines fight the dark forces in 'Sybil' triads, witches that work with air, fire, and earth. No water witches tho because those were wiped out by a natural disaster hundreds of years ago (shades of Atlantis). I enjoyed r...more

#1 Dark Crescent Sisterhood
It's the women in this book who are leather clad, sword and dagger brandishing, kick #ss warriors! The ladies are Sybils, who get their supernatural powers from the elements (Earth, Air and Fire -- water as a supernatural element is extinct).
Each triad of Sybils protects a section of New York City against the Legion, who seek power, money and world domination by using demons.

Riana Dumain is the mortar of her triad, an earth controlling Sybil and leader of her group. Creed Lowell is a cop working in the Occult Crimes Unit. When a senator's son is murdered in a ritualistic fashion it falls on Creed and his partner Andy to figure out who killed Jacob Latch without actually being involved with the case. When Andy brings some evidence to her friend Riana for some help things get tricky.

Bound by Shadow revolves around a group of women called Sybils. They are female warriors who battle an evil group called the Legion using the elements to aid them. I loved that the warriors in this book were female and not male. Many of the adult paranormal romance books are male warrior dominant and seeing women take the reins was very refreshing. Bound by Shadow focuses on Riana, she is an earth Sybil and the leader of her triad. She protects the other two women in her triad with everything sh...more
Sybil Riana Dumain meets cop Creed Lowell. Each has secrets but little does Creed realize that Riana and her network can reveal far more about his "other" than he ever dreamed. She is part of a network that humans are oblivious to but, like Creed, takes her responsibility for protecting those around her very seriously. Despite all indications that they should be mortal enemies, they are deeply attracted to one another but one of them is going to have to radically change if their love is to flour...more
I really enjoyed this book. Riana and Creed were SMOKIN' hot together. I can't wait to read the next in the series! Nick and Cynda seem to be pretty hot (LITERALLY ;-) themselves!
The only thing that annoyed me was her sisters' continued dislike of Creed and how they always made Riana feel bad about loving him. I so wanted them to finally accept and love him in the end too! It's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. I look forward to seeing them all again in the next book though, hopefully it...more

So this story and the premise of it were great. There were a couple of issues, like the plot got overshadowed sometimes by the romance, and in other places I got really irritated with reading the same I should turn him in but I can't because I love him speech, happens about 50 times in the book. I characters are fun but Riana's character really bugged me.
Anyways the plot was great. I loved it. It's about Riana Dumain a Sybil or trained warrior priestess who battles evil with earth magic, with he...more

Synopsis:
As a fully trained Sybil, Riana Dumain is a warrior priestess in the battle of good versus evil. When she becomes involved in a case involving the occult murder of a child, Riana suspects that NYPD detective Creed Lowell may possibly be a foot soldier for the evil Legion cult, using his badge and drop-dead looks to consolidate demonic power. Why then does she find herself so attracted to him?

One of my top 12 authors and a series I highly recommend! I absolutrly love the characters, the plot line, the writting - everything! Witches and demons (ok, half-demons) but man, these guys are just yummy! The women are strong and well created, but they aren't so strong that you want to smack them for being ridiculously overbearing and/or pushy. There is a lot of humor in these books and the sex is steamy, but the best part is that the story is strong and it's really easy to get sucked into the...more
Super-enjoyable novel that promises to be a great series! Lots of action, sexiness and an ending that I didn't see coming. Characters are in-depth as is the world-building, where Triads of elemental Sybils are trained to protect the earth against occult and demonic activities. This book features the Manhattan Triad lead by its Mortar, Riana. Her Pestle, Cynda, and her Broom, Merilee, live with her in a brownstone across from Central Park and the three truly act like sisters - including all the g...more
I don't think I can say anything good for this one. I found 2 plot discrepancies in 75 pages... and the storyline went from pretty good to dragging and over heavy on the action in seconds. Its a Long book, with a plot I'm still trying figure out, And by that I mean what made it unique. I feel like the author didn't finish a lot of ideas she had going on, and that she threw together a bunch of ideas that seemed like a good idea all together, but it falls flat.

4.5. This is the first book in the “Dark Crescent Sisterhood”. This book is about Riana and Creed. Riana is the head of a group of Sybils. The Sybils are made up of 3 elements-earth, wind and fire (water being an extinct group). Riana represents the earth part. The group of Sybils helps out a section of the police called “The Occult Dept.” Creed is a detective in this dept and as soon as he meets Riana, sparks fly.

I have force myself to read this book. I was dissappointed. Here I was expecting something really exciting, and it was boring. I found myself skipping a ton of nonsensical descriptions, like a half of a page of Russian Mustard...Really? Are you advertising? Should I run out and buy some?
I also got tired of all the bitchy, I hate everyone, witches. The only one who is ok & not trying to kill the love interest, is the object of his (Creed's)desire, Riana. It just got old. It reminded me of a...more

Yet another paranormal romance, maybe, but this series is nicely unique. It's also romantic, sexy, and fun. 'Bound by Shadow' is a strong opener to the series, focusing on an entertaining and dynamic couple while also introducing a larger world and cast of characters. After finishing the first book, I went right out and bought the next two.
The premise of this book was a little tired for me. Maybe if I read the book before I read the Faefever series it wouldn't have felt that way but I didn't so it did and I was disappointed.
However, I wasn't so disappointed not to pick up the next in the series ... because I have to say that despite the tired plot the book (at times) was HOT. Ha!

This book took me forever to get into. I blame a big part of that on the fact that the book was missing the first two chapters. Literally. Open the cover and Chapter Three is the first page. At first I thought it was just a writing tactic but after a dozen or so pages I realized the characters were referencing things that had just happened in the story but weren't in the book. I actually put the book down at that point and wasn't going to finish it. I wasn't. Damn OCD that can't leave a book unf...more
this is the first book in the trilogy. It's kind of high on the "woo-woo" scale which makes it hard to get into, but I love the characters. Riana has some really great issues to deal with - how to be a leader when you have self-doubts; how to balance "work" and your own personal needs. It's a good read.
I've had this on my TBR list for awhile, and I just kept getting distracted by other books. But I've finally read it! It was pretty good, I liked it. It was definitely more of a paranormal than an urban fantasy. It was very romance based, and there was quite a bit of sex in it. I liked the concept of the triad of witches that represent the elements (except water), and the demons that they have to fight against. The reason I didn't rate it higher, frankly the side characters were obnoxious. If th...more
Not as great as I thought it would be. Nonetheless, I've spent a few funny moments with this book. The plot though didn't fascinate me and I am not going to read the rest of the trilogy. It's not that I don't think that it's worth the effort but because I think I don't have the will to read the rest.
In the paranormal genre this is median book, really.
I think there is better in this genre, unfortunately.

Action and sex, my fav! I enjoyed learning about the world of Sybles, including Air, Fire and Earth (and later water) warriors who use elements as their weapons and defenses. The 1/2 demon 1/2 man was a nice change from the typical male lead as well. I like that the strong female lead did not fall into a pile of jelly, letting the male lead take over. Hunting down the other two in the series now.
This is an amazing book! Riana Dumain is the leader of a witch triad and they are fighting the Legion - demons who are trying to take over the world. In walks hotter than hell Creed Lowell, half-human, half-demon NYPD Occult Unit cop. The sparks fly and they can't keep their hands off each other. Creed is fighting this war right along side the witches and falls head over heels for Riana.

New series for me. I liked it more than I thought I would. Story got a little convoluted at one point, but it wrapped up nicely and made a nice intro into book 2. Will keep reading this series. Good random find at the library
