I've heard of these books before, but never gotten my hands on one. I was expecting an insider's novel about DC, but instead got the story of a decidedly outsider mid-level politico with good ethics and a sharp wit. Quick, pleasingly told and oddly wistful for a different kind of politics.

Filled with over the top characters (that seem slightly familiar), Mack to the Rescue was a delight! Mack in this case is the Lt. Governor of Oklahoma. The Gov. continually comes up with hare-brained schemes, but his latest is a doozy! "Buffalo" Joe Hayman, a.k.a. "Chip", wants to privatize the entire government of OK, they only 2 state officials left will be himself and a secretary. Can Mack save the state, will he even want to?
