The sloths at Sleepy Valley Sloth School are busy doing their slothful best to be model students -- they sleep, nap, chew their berries one at a time, very well. Everyone is on the same page and teachers and principals are all pleased with the students' progress. Enter Sparky, a new sloth on the block. She's a mover, a shaker, a go-getter! And she doesn't fit in. UNTIL the Boar from Society for Organizing Sameness comes to close the school for their lack of progress...SOS wants sloths to stop be...more

This should be on a teacher's required reading list-- for the teacher to read, not the students! Although I think students will find it amusing, it's so true to a teacher's life right now. Sloth School receives a visit from a district Wild Boar. He says their school is doing so poorly on all of their standardized tests that they are going to be closed down! One energetic sloth finds a few ways to fool the clueless boar (who really has no idea what goes on at Sloth School, or what Sloths might ac...more
Loved the beginning, the world-building. Perfect vocabulary & phonemes, and syntax, and illustrations, to make the reader feel ready to join the sloths. But the plot just didn't belong - it was jarring, and I felt betrayed. I don't think that a Boar should oversee a school for Sloths, or hold it to the same standards as other Mammal Schools. They are, after all, sloths, doing what they do best! Still, if you can find this book in your library, check it out just for the page that introduces ...more
granted, the sloths are cute. but they are probably sleeping so much because this book was slow moving and slightly dull. granted, it encouraged the kids to learn about sloths so this may lead to a non-fiction side road. but YAWN.
Love. This is my favorite Helen Lester book.
About school. A great book for the beginning of the school year. I read it to my K classes. I haven't gotten tired of it yet.

The students and faculty of Sleepy Valley Sloth School were content in their slothfulness until a representative of the Board from the Society for Organizness Sameness appears. With the help from new friend Sparky the school is saved.
This one is very cute, though not my favorite Helen Lester book. It is very useful though, if you're an SLP looking for lots of /s/ sounds at the reading level. :)
I loved the sloth's pajamas. And the idea of what sloths would do at a sloth school was very entertaining.
