I won't go into huge storyline detail about this book. As it has been around awhile with some detailed reviews. It took me awhile to warm up to Roselyn and wanted to someone to shake her and say wake up Princess, you brother is no darn prince, but you are married to one. I loved Kyle from the start and more patience than a saint. I can't wait to see what Lord Easterbrook has in store for us, something shocking I am sure.
I think this story was very romantic and sweet. It was the kind of story that made me feel gooey and comfortable as I read it, there were some secondary storylines of course...we finally get to witness the conclusion to the Longworth Scheme, we get to see Alexia - who is my favorite female character in this series, we get to be updated on what happens to Phaedra & Elliot. But still, the secondary story paled in comparison to the gradual growth of love between Rose and Kyle. And Kyle! First o...more
First, let me start off by saying that I LOVE amazon.com's summary of romance novel plots. I could write my own but I can't capture the cheesiness like amazon. Okay...back to the review at hand.
This was my third book in the '...sin' series. Unlike the male leads in Hunter's previous works, Bradwell is a self-made man and this was a welcome change. The heroine, Rose, fits the mold of previous romantic leads..not a virgin, but still innocent in the language of love. Characters from previous books...more

What a pleasant surprise this was! I have only read one other Hunter before and while I didn't like that particular story (because the hero crossed the line), I did like her style so I thought I'd give her another try. I'm so glad I did! First of all the story was really original which is increasingly rare for a Regency era romance. The heroine was ruined - financially, physically, and socially - and none of this turned out to be gossip or a misunderstanding. She really was. The hero isn't title...more
Roselyn Longworth has gotten herself into a deplorable stuation. She believed herself in love, but instead the Lord who had brought her to his bawdy party was now trying to sell her in an auction amid whores. When Kyle Bradwell steps forward and buys her she’s both relieved and enraged. Rose couldn’t believe herself to fall any farther than she already had, no thank to her brother and his hairbrained scheme that landed her penniless and him a fugitive. When Kyle makes it clear he has no intentio...more
A minha opinião...

Roselyn Longworth is rescued by a stranger, Kyle Bradwell, when she is betrayed by her lover and auctioned off at one of his bizzare dinner parties. Already in despair due to her brothers bank theft and fleeing she is now threatened with ruin when words gets out of her affair and the circumstances of the evening. Unbeknownst to Roselyn, Kyle has admired Roselyn from a far and is already aware of her brothers theft as he is one of his unsuspecting victims. Kyle is paid off to marry Roselyn in ord...more
Roselyn Longworth reaches rock bottom when the man that she thought loved her attempts to auction her off to the highest bidder at his licentious dinner party. She does not realize the extent of antipathy generated against her and her family due to her brother's perfidy in defrauding investors from their savings. Kyle Bradwell is one of the victims but finds himself in the position of being attracted to Roselyn despite the scandal surrounding her and her family. Nice vignettes as these two striv...more
First of all, Secrets of Surrender is so much more enjoyed if you at least read Rules of Seduction first. The background lends so much more to the romance of Rose and Kyle. I've read some of the reviews and assumed some of the worst ones were from those that picked up this story without any investment in the characters. Madeline Hunter brings a fresh view to just how different the British perspectives were when marrying outside of one's bred class. It can be hard to relate to some of the scenes...more
In Secrets of Surrender, Madeline Hunter takes common romance tropes and turns them on their head. Instead of an rake in need of reformation, the hero, Kyle, is actually a business man. Born to be a coalminer, Kyle received a patronage from the father of our villain and used it to the best advantage. Though not a gentleman by birth, he is one of the few true gentlemen in Surrender.
Furthermore, our heroine is not one most romance readers are used to. Rose is a woman surrounded by scandal. Her br...more

Madeline Hunter is almost always enjoyable. This current series is a little darker than her other (not sure the name of that series, but it had the Sinner, the Charmer, etc. in it). But one thing I liked and appreciated was that toward the climax, when the secrets are all inevitably coming to a head, she didn't do the expected (and cliched). The hero and heroine weren't overly dramatic about it, though there was worry and hurt, there weren't any "I hate you's" or "You were just using me's".

After finishing several serious literary novels, I grabbed the audio CD of this romance novel for a light read.
Read by Simon Prebble, this romance novel comes alive on CD. I entered the Rothwell series late by reading the third one in the series first so now I need to catch up with the other books in the series. I discovered that Madeline Hunter is a excellent romance writer

Citando-me:

I'm still not sure what I think of this book. The heroine's brother swindled huge piles of money from people and ran off, leaving his sisters to pay the price--only they haven't any money to pay it with. The older sister winds up at a party without realizing it's really an orgy, and without realizing that the romantic swain seduced her as part of his revenge against her brother. She won't do what he wants, so he decides to sell her to the highest bidder. The hero--who is "merely" a real estate d...more
He catches her eye across the dining room—a handsome stranger who stands out among the lewd noblemen and bawdy painted women. But their worlds are about to collide in a way Roselyn Longworth could never have imagined. For before the night is out, she will be auctioned off to the highest bidder...and Kyle Bradwell will lead her from one kind of hell to another. Yet from the moment he wins her, Kyle treats Rose with a gentleness she hasn't known since a family scandal destroyed her reputation. And...more
A very entertaining story. I don't understand why it was necessary to enter that one last scandal in the very end of the book ... but still enjoyable. For Madeline Hunter's books, you either like them or you don't. I liked Secrets of Surrender. You read about the hero and heroine each on a journey of self-discovery while they both build and fight their attraction. Recommended for Sylvia Day fans and those who love feisty historical romances. 4/5 stars.
I am smitten by Madeline Hunter's Rothwell series. Each book is better than the last, and this is no exception. Haydn Rothwell's wife Alexia is distressed that her dear cousin Roselyn, has been left nearly destitute by her brothers' perfidy. The Rothwell brothers do not want to see her so unhappy as she awaits the birth of her first child. Steps are taken to resolve the issue, by inducing a commoner to offer her marriage. He is what we call a land developer, and marriage to Rose opens doors for...more
for some reason i didn't like it... i love Madeline Hunter's books...but this one i just could not get into.... I did not like the leads...she was not a likeable h, and although he was a much better H...but in the end it was not one of my favorites or even my least favorite. Other reviewers really liked it....so do not let one opinion sway you...i never do...lol.
i was so engrossed in reading the story and i find the story gave me the feeling of melancholy. there was so much sadness and situations that made one want to give up, but still pursue to fight. it was a good although it lacked that excitement and the banters i am looking for the main characters. i do love kyle's character, he is the ideal knight-in-shining-armor.
Ah, nothing like well-written fluffy romances to bring me back to reading. I was getting pretty burnt out on these huge tomes (and then getting GR to tell me that I'm behind on my reading challenge, to boot - pffft!!) and I'm glad to have a bit of fun before I go back to those door stoppers. As I'm beginning to expect, Hunter writes another winner. :) Her plots are more intricate than your typical romance, and even the plot turns that wouldn't be a problem if her main two protagonists actually j...more
Fairly typical Madeline Hunter stuff going on (quixotically generous/honourable hero, oblivious heroine), but not so repetitive as to make the characters or plot seem like total retreads of other books. I find Hunter's stories satisfyingly emotional and intelligent (even if the characters can sometimes be stubbornly blind), and this was no exception.

I was forcibly given this book by a lady who owns a thrift store. I tried desperately to pay her the 25 cents I owed her, but she seemed ready to eat me if I didn't accept her generosity.
I enjoyed the book quite a bit, which surprised me. It's quite well-written.

This book follows Lessons of Desire and Rules of Seduction. Although good, I didn't think it was as good as the others. Kyle Bradwell bids on Roselyn at private country party and takes her to her cousin to save her from being raped. He then with the encouragement of Lord Easterbrook marries her to save her reputation. Her brother Tim is still a problem (he was in other books w/brother Ben whom stole from the bank they owned), but finally gets caught. He gets sent to colonies. The loves scenes we...more
