This is a good book. It has some negatives that I’ll get to in a moment, but there is so much right about the book that the mature, discerning reader can easily overlook the weaknesses and benefit from the strengths. In a nutshell, Classic is about finding one’s identity in Christ, or even more specifically, through one’s union with Christ. George’s big idea is that, having been saved by Christ, I am now properly understood as: totally forgiven, clothed in the perfect righteousness of Christ, an...more
This is the type of book that you need to read more than once. Here are some quotes that make shake you up if you are a Christian.
" The Christian church is obsessed with sin. It's all we talk about. Most of our preaching and teaching and teaching is directed toward getting people to quit sinning, Are you ready for a shocking statement? The goal of the Christian life is not to stop sinning."
" A hypocrite is not an imperfect person; a hypocrite is an actor, a pretender. What made the Pharisees hyp...more

As my aim is to read all the books from the Hillsong Resource I decided that "recommended books" should have priority. What to say about this one? Well, A LOT! However, as I want to work as a tool to influence people to read, I will simply outline some of the main points of the book.
Firstly, let's start with "Grace"... It's taken me a while to understand that "there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set...more

A fantastic book on the Christian life. Too often Christians forget that not only are they saved by grace, but they are to live by grace as well. Christianity is all about grace and freedom from the law from first to last. Though I don't agree with every little thing George says, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It will change your life!
This book is on my top 5 list of books every Christian should reakd who desires to understand and walk in the reality of being made dead to sin and alive to God by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone! So, on my bookshelf right next to my NASB and NLT Bible would be: Martin Luther's Commentary on Galatians, Wm. R. Newell's Commentary on Romans, Grace Walk by Steve McVey, The Rest of the Godpel by D. Gregory/D. Stone and Classic Christianity by Bob George.
Have you burned out on trying to be good? Trying to "evangelize" when you really don't feel like it? Feeling guilty because you don't want to keep "doing" the church stuff, and find yourself wanting to drop out? Maybe your foundation is incorrect. Maybe you need to go back to the basics of who you are: who you became when you became a Christ follower. This book helped me at a crisis of faith in my life. This book helped me realize I was a legalist, a hypocrite, and miserable, and how to change i...more

Don't consider myself a Calvinist and this guy is a militant one. I will say his "quit skulking and live like you believe that Jesus did what He said He did" approach was pretty good. Just too much time spent mocking those who don't agree with him. If you are looking for more ammunition as a Calvinist this likely will be a fun book, but most moderates and definitely the Armenians would just roll their eyes at Mr George.
When I first read Bob George I was pretty blown away. He had a radio show called People to People that I would listen to when possible. His ministry really touched me when I was caught in some strong legalistic tendencies. He would certainly not mesh well with the Catholic reality, but I appreciated him at the time.

a. As with many others, if not all Christian non-fiction books, I did not finish reading this.
