Creepy Have you seen the movie yet? I don't want to spoil it, but it's creepy, dramatic, somehow a little funny, and intense. The Ring, a Japanese multi-media frenzy based on the best-selling horror novels by Koji Suzuki, has already made its way to America in both a Western adaptation of the film, and an equally popular dubbed Japanese version of the film. Well, from Dark...more

I won't get too much into the plot of this story, mostly because you probably aren't going to read this manga/ever knew it existed in the first place without seeing either the Japanese or American version, or have read Ring.

And for those of you who don't know (You must have been living under a rock to not know something of the francise) (view spoiler)[The Ring is about a female reporter who is trying to uncover the mystery of a tape that apparently causes you to die within the week. Having watch...more

A quick read - my daughter was waiting for me to finish so I had to blaze through it too quickly. Didn't really see the horror part, haven't seen the movie or read the novels so maybe there's more than I could glean at such a brisk read. I want to re-read it at leisure to see if I can tease out any nuances. I would rate the artwork as average; the story tense but not intense, and the resolution (such as it was) could have been creepier, so I gave it an average rating. It leaves me wondering if t...more

Volume one of The Ring, a manga based on the novel by Koji Suzuki, follow Reiko as she investigates the rumor about a video that once watched the viewer will die exactly one week from the time they watched the video. Once she finds the video in question, out of curiosity Reiko watches it and winds up in a race against time to find out the history behind the film and to stop her imminent death. The art is very dark, which works well with the tone of the story, and t...more

I started reading this but couldn't bring myself to finish it. The movie was the freakiest movie I've ever seen, but this was like a bad cartoon retelling of it. It wasn't very well drawn (with a couple of exceptions) and the story didn't really convey much "horror." I got about halfway through before quitting.

If you want a good horror manga with a good horror movie based on it, try Uzumaki.

An absorbingly creepy tale with an eerie twist ending. Reminds me of the urban legends I used to hear in high school, when I would relish the chills that thinking about the story produced. A small part of my nature is superstitious enough to wonder "what if...?"

reading this Japan comic backwards is definitely different. Not as creepy as the movie.

This book was scary and a little over my head.

It's Good but not great...!

The book is very interesting. In a way its kinda of like a mystery but unfortunately you get the clues and have 7 days to solve it. The ending of the book was not the best but I believe the author made the ending the way it was to leave the storyline open for a sequel

I keep telling myself I don't get manga, but then I realize I love Osamu Tezuka, and now had a splendid time going right to left on this one. Almost as fun (if that is the right word) as the movie.

this manga sorta explains how Sadako Yammamura came to be.
i'm still confused having read it, but there's some fantastic imagery within.

Good book. The artwork was more more reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim, that was surprising. I had seen the movie years ago and dont really remember it. I figure cursed tape, people die, thats about all you need to know. Taking it from there the book was decent and I enjoyed the read. It was rather long for a manga because Im used to volumes that are around 150 pages but I finished it in one sitting. I just have one problem with it. The ending was terrible.
