This is a really good look into a time gone by in rural Northern Utah. Life was hard. The community raises good kids who want to find a better life away from home. Like most families, all of the children choose different directions to pursue. How much can a parent influence a child to choose to appreciate home? The grass always seem greener in the other valley, but is it? More people should read this book.
Our book club gave this book a lot of thumbs down so I was thought the book would be awful. It is slow. I thought it read like journal entries and it was hard to keep reading. But the life lessons, the family differences and the self discoveries were real and good. It was worth reading.
