This story centres on Princess Betony, half human , half dryad. When the great dragon Winrider bewitches her father, King Max, she journeys to the high country to obtain his release. With the help of her friends, Basil and Clover, she tries to achieve her aim without changing into a wood-nymph.

Now I read this book at least fourteen years ago, when I found it in the library at my primary school. So this whole review may in fact be seen through a haze of rose-tinted small-child nostalgia.

But it is one of my clearest memories of books from back then, apart from Tolkien's The Hobbit. I was drawn to the cover, obviously because of the dragon, and it's always a good thing when the cover art and the title actually match what happens in the book.
