The GR reviews on this one are mixed but I'm on the higher end of them. I loved this book. Not only am I fan in general of erotica, I'm especially a fan of well-written erotica. However, it was my love of the actual Phantom story and my long held belief that Christine truly was in love with Erik, that she simply wasn't strong enough to deal with the intensity of her feelings.
My only irritation with the book (and it wasn't even enough to take it down a star) was that I would get to an especially...more

But I always wished Christine had ended up with Erik instead of Raoul (who always seemed kind of weak compared to the passionate Phantom).. Which is why I really enjoyed this book.. The sex scenes were very hot, and well written.. I kind of liked the fact that you had sex scenes between secondary characters as well as between the MCs.. Ok... they were all a tad unbelievable, lol.. but this is erotica, right?!

I read in reviews that the ending is different from the stage version, which is why I decided to give it a try. I never liked the way the show ended...I always wanted her to end up with the Phantom. =) However....this book is nothing but smut. I really was looking for more content dealing with Christine and Erik's relationship, but not like this. All this book consisted of was how many people can you do it with and how many ways can you do it. The fact that Christine DOES end up with the Phantom...more

My husband picked up this book from morbid curiosity and I can only blame myself for doing the same. I don't usually read erotic fiction of this kind, but the subject matter of the Phantom of the Opera, one of my all time favorite classics, was too much to pass up.
I can't comment on the genre, because I don't read it, but I recognize that the book was an attempt to put a twist on a classic story. It didn't work for me at all, but I am too close in my adoration of the original and have made too...more

A week plus after I put this book away unfinished and traded it away, I'm still so disappointed with this book. I've never left a book unfinished and trading it has ensured I never will because I certainly won't seek this one out again.
I'm no prude. I have no problem with erotica, but the sex scenes in this book weren't very titillating and there was so much focus on characters other than the primary three of the traditional Phantom of the Opera story.

I thought this book was a good read. Good, not great. A lot of her descriptions seemed to be almost copy-and-pasted, but it was still entertaining. It will be especially rewarding to anyone who saw the movie and was disappointed at the lack of time with Christine and The Phantom one on one. It plays heavily on the movie interpretation, opposed to classical views of the story. Also it should be noted that the author takes liberties with the plot. While we have our recognizable characters, Christi...more
I had certainly never read a book like this before - I would NEVER have picked it up if I didn't love The Phantom of the Opera so much. Trust me, it was the storyline - not the sexy content - that intrigued me. I had no clue what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Sure, the intimate scenes took me by surprise and I could feel my face turn red as I read those parts (and trust me, there were a LOT of them), but it was the actual STORY that I focused on.

This came my way in a box of books from a friend. Being a bookaholic, I couldn't pass it along without giving it a whirl, even though The Phantom of the Opera never interested me much.
Not having read the book, I have a mental image of the old b&w movie, where, to my memory, the Phantom is a half-mad, creepy guy who kidnaps a woman (Christine) he has falled in love with.
In this book, Eric (the Phantom) is known to Christine, as he is her "Angel of Music", who has been acting as her voice coac...more

This book has been sitting on my shelf since it was released. I decided to read it since my friend AmyC was gonna read it. It's an Erotic retelling of the Phantom of the Opera. Which is the only reason I picked it up, cause I loved the movie. But this retelling is very much different than the movie or the musical. It's thrilling, fast paced, steamy and quite frankly a better ending then the original.
I don't think anyone should be surprised when they read this book that there are sex scenes. It says right on the cover that it is an erotic novel!
I LOVE the Phantom of the Opera, and I enjoyed this simply for that reason. I always thought that The Phantom and Christine should have gotten more intimate. Apparently Andrew Lloyd Webber, who wrote the musical version, agreed because he followed it up with Love Never Dies. I'm still not sure how I feel about that production.

When I was 17 I was absolutely obsessed with anything Phantom of the Opera related. So naturally I was eager to read this, being a Erik/Christine fan, but I was left feeling sorely underwhelmed. Yes, there was a slow, delicious unravelling of Erik's emotional and physical barriers by Christine, and in turn the opening awareness of Christine's sensual self, but this clashed with the blatant orgy antics of other minor characters, which frankly I did not find erotic as it only diminished the power...more
Some books are like car accidents. You stop, look, and continue on your way, but deep down you really want to know what happens next. Colette Gale’s new interpretation of The Phantom of the Opera goes way beyond morbid fascination and straight into revulsion. I can only imagine that Gaston Leroux is spinning in his grave.

I liked the book because the author managed to twist the story in a way where Christine was able to love and accept Eric in a believable way and not merely having to settle with him to avoid his antisocial tendencies. I was a bit confused at first because some details were different from the Leroux novel but then I realized that this was based on A.L.W's musical which I have yet to see. At some points in the novel, it felt too much like reading fan fiction but then again it's well written and I...more
The phantom of the Opera has always been a great love story, but the ending never seemed to satisfy.
The overall story was good, it seemed to work a little better, make more sense. And as much as I love erotica, this was sex to fill up pages. Don't get me wrong some of the scenes were very well written, they served a higher purpose than filler.
And the thing I think that bothered me the most was the point of view changes that did nothing too further the sotry.

An erotic retelling of The Phantom of the Opera. While I can appreciate what the author was trying to do with this book, I wish she'd written it differently. I'd like to have read more scenes involving Christine and Erik, instead of all the horny side characters. It seems like the main goal of everyone in the book was to get laid. Christine and Erik do truly love each other, but did Christine have to be such a hussy? It's like any guy could arouse her, probably even a hobo on the street. Well, a...more
I read the erotica genre often, and I absolutely love Phantom of the Opera. When I saw this book in the bookstore I just had to have it, I had to add it to my collection. I wanted to like it soooo much I really did. I couldn't even finish reading the book. There was too much about the other characters, and it couldn't hold my attention. I think in the future I might try reading it again, but I don't know.

Unmasqued is an erotic novel re-telling the tale of the Phantom of the Opera with Erik, the opera house phantom, being the misunderstood and sometimes villainous hero. The story follows Erik lurking in the shadows as Raoul, the Vicomte, attempts to court the beautiful Christine. This worries and angers Erik, because Christine's talent not only attracts the Raoul, but his elder brother Philippe, the Comte, as well.

Is this author for real?
This is not what I expected at all,
The book is distasteful and a waste of time.
The writing is okay, but the actions of the characters are deplorable.
I thought that this book would be about a tale of Christine's sensual awakening; however,
it ended up being non romantic, non erotic and way way over the top.
The story starts off where Christine a dancer at the opera house and aspiring singer has met and

Angels of Music Unbound
The story of the Phantom of the Opera is a well known one. It has been recreated on paper, music, film and for the stage, over and over. Colette Gale has once again breathed life into the legend of the Opera Ghost, the Angel of Music, by telling his tale in a more romantic, erotic way.
The author pretty much retains the basics of the original tale, taking the character s of Christine Daae and Erik de Chagny to new heights. Christine Daae, a budding opera singer one day fin...more

This book was dedicated "To all the women who thought Christine should have stayed with the Phantom," which is a large part of why I decided to read it. When you're passionate about a story (as I have been with the Phantom since I was 14), you want those characters to have a chance at happily-ever-after that they don't get in the original. Mostly you imagine the alternate ending in your head. Sometimes you get a chance to see another ending. (Think Scarlett and Gone with the Wind.) In that sense...more
An Erotic Novel of The Phantom of the Opera is a story of the well known classic but with a little twist. Instead of Christine falling in love with Raoul, she falls in love with the Phantom. Christine's father was a famous violinist who traveled all over the world, perfoming and tutoring. He died when she was a young girl. Since his death she hasn't been able to sing or find music as fufilling as when her father was alive. She hasn't been able to find her place in the world, feeling lost and alo...more

Am I being naive for being surprised by the amount of sex in this book? I should have known better -- it does have the word "erotic" right on the cover -- but I guess I didn't expect so much of it.
I have to say that reading this was extremely educational for me -- in terms of vocabulary, that is. Quim? Pip? I never knew there were so many hilarious names for the female anatomy! They sound like characters out of Charles Dickens.

While this book takes elements and characters from the original Phantom of the Opera, the Erik of this book is more Lloyd Webber's than Leroux. For a start, only half his face is deformed. Colette Gale then manages to take almost everything that was attractive to some women about the Phantom, that made him so seductive and intriguing, and make him into a cliched angst ridden hero. In honesty, I preferred the dangerous maniac Erik to this one, and was more attracted to Raoul (portrayed as almost...more
