Now We Are Sixty (and a Bit)
Barely had the first copies of Now We Are Sixty landed in bookshops when people started to ask Christopher Matthew when he was going to write a sequel. "You could call it Now We Are Seventy " Not being within a "fourpenny bus ride" of his Biblical quota, Matthew set his face firmly against the whole idea. Yet to his surprise, the temptation to try his h...more

I never thought I would laugh so much while I read. Now we are sixty is by far the wittiest piece of literature I have ever read. On the topic of turning sixty sounds boring and dull. Making me wish to never get old, this book will not change your opinion. At least it was not in my case. But, a day brightener to say the least, Reading his work made each bad day bearable, similar to a glass of milk with a side of cookies. I have little to say about the book and its content, that is why I wish t...more
This is cool - I'm the first person to put a review on for this book!
This author is So Clever. A few years ago I bought his "Now We are Sixty" - actually, I bought a copy for me, one for my friend who turned 60 this year, and another for a friend who had already passed the mark a few years previously. Then my darling (on advice from my daughter) gave me this second book of his for my birthday, and though I've got a few years to go before I even hit the big Six Oh, I can s...more

I was bought this book several years ago by my ex-husband. Neither of us were, or are now even, sixty. It is a funny little book and did make me laugh. Not quite as humourous or well written as Pam Ayres but seems to follow along in her style. I've given the book three stars because it is still on my bookshelf and does get looked at, albeit rather infrequently these days. I'm not sure if I would actually buy the book for myself though.
I still have my copy of "The World of Christopher Robin" which contains "When We Were Very Young" and "Now We Are Six". This book is a delightfully irreverent answer to the original, very much in keeping with the spirit of AA Milne, but from the perspective of a more mature audience.
A good collection of rhymes (or is that how you cal it?) circling the matter of, you know, the world around you when one turns sixty or so. It's funny how I actually find it entertaining. My psychological age must be much older than I imagined.
Christopher Matthew uses A.A. Milne's When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six as inspiration for his witty poems on turning age 60.
So bad, I'm not even sure why it was published.
I am just a sucker for parodies, and a a milne's books cry out for it. Having reached the age in question, this was a must-buy for me. I dip into occasionally, and laugh every time.
