A few interesting touches. Inverting Thanos's goals so that, instead of trying to kill the entire universe as an offering for Death, he wants to make everyone immortal so only he will know Death is a nice twist on the character. But that's about as interesting as it gets.

Sigh.

I want to absolutely savage this, because it really just bothered me about how this entire thing went down. None of this makes in-universe sense, the story isn't even that well, we've effectively nerfed Thanos, Reed Richards looks like a bodybuilder.

What the heck?

The Thanos storyline was much more interesting than the Super Russia Hunt, but even then...I don't know.

One more trade to go at this point. Might as well finish if I've gone this far.

Reprints Ultimate Fantastic Four #47-53 (December 2007-June 2008). Reed has become obsessed with the idea of the Cosmic Cube. He is so obsessed that Sue is allowed off on a mission to Russia which leads her to be a prisoner of Ivan Kragoff. The Fantastic Four end up on a rescue mission to Russia with the help of the Crimson Dynamo. When the Fantastic Four head back to New York they find Reed’s experiment has gone out of control and that Earth is facing the threat of Thanos the Mad Titan.

Ever notice how everything bad that happens, happens as a result of Reed Richards' stupidity? How long before someone locks him up in a super-prison and throws away the key? These stories are really starting to become repetitive. I did like the first arc, the trip to Russia and the introduction of the Ultimate Crimson Dynamo. But the return of Thanos and his quest for the power cube just left me cold. Don't care for that kind of cosmic-level storytelling. And the art in that sequence just wasn't ...more

While not perfect, Ghosts was a very enjoyable Fantastic Four book. Not quite as good as Doom, but still pretty damn enjoyable. While this one has two stories inside it (a mark of death for most of the other volumes in F4), Carey paces both well and- get this- actually makes the aliens make sense! There were some plot conveniences, like Atrea even mentioning that she's the Deus Ex Machina of the story... even though it make me laugh a bit. However, the stories do a great job showing the ...more

This contains 2 stories, vastly different to each other. One involves Russia, mad scientists and the Crimson Dynamo. The other Thanos, cosmic cube and space battles. The ultimate Reed Richards is continuing to be the cause of all problems, I think he definately needs a psychologist now. A quick read.

I don't know what Mike Carey has against the FF being fun. He shows he can do it, because the Red Ghost is (if a bit goofy) at least fun. All the Thanos stuff was terribly boring a few tpbs ago, and surprise! it still is.

So this title has turned into Reed Richards creates problem for the universe and then has to fix it!
