Very nice quick, easy story. Christian book. Loved the storyline.....
Melissa Robinson
Carson, the author of numerous Christian fiction titles for adults, teens and children, starts a new series with Back Home Again.

The Howard family home has been a local landmark for decades. When Reverend Howard, the long-time pastor of Grace Chapel dies, he bequeaths the slightly dilapidated, but still charming old house to his three daughters. Despite their very different temperaments and interests, the sisters decide to take a major leap of faith and turn their family home into a bed and brea...more

Back Home Again is a marvelous and wholesome book by Melody Carlson. It is the story of three sisters, who have not always gotten along, who reunite after the death of their father. Their father has left the family home, an old Victorian, to the sisters. They decide to turn it into a bed and breakfast but not without some trials and tribulations along the way. Most of these trials and tribulations are caused by the residents of the small town, Acorn Hill. Some of the residents you love and some...more

Grace Chapel Inn, located in the village of Acorn Grove, gets its beginning in the sweet, light first book that is now extended to almost 50 books. Melody Carson authors this first book in this Christian series about three sisters and their Bed and Breakfast, the Grace Chapel Inn. Various other Christian authors take turns in continuing this interesting series on Christian life, problems, friendships and faith.

In this book, the sisters reunite after their minister father dies and leaves his old...more

Such a good book. Not her usual YA Christian which I also like to read. There are 25 books in this Tales From Grace Chapel Inn series (not all Kindle), and I would like to read them all :)

Description from Amazon:
The sleepy town of Acorn Hill is in for a surprise when the three Howard sisters reunite after the death of their father. Each has inherited a share of his worn-down Victorian house, and they dream of turning the family home into a bed-and-breakfast.

What an enjoyable book about three sisters who inherit the old family home after the death of their father and decide to turn it into a Bed & Breakfast. The book tracks the ups and downs of this endeavor but it is also about the very different personalities of the three sisters as well as an aunt and the other townspeople.

There is the youngest, Jane, who is a chef and tends towards modern design. Then there is Louise, the oldest, who is a music teacher and loves all things Victorian. Finally...more

All 3 girls came together at the family home after their dad died.
They decided to make the house into a bed and breakfast. They worked really hard and had a gentleman working for them. When he was paid his last payment, before the roof was put on, he left with the money. He left bills where he did not pay.
The town, even though they did not like the idea of an inn in their little town, came together and paid for the roofing to be done. It was not the slate roof as it had on it, but at least the s...more

I am gradually making my way through this entire series of 40-some titles. They are nice gentle reads - Jan Karon fans will enjoy this series. Just like Mitford, Acorn Hill has interesting and quirky characters who appear in each book, but the setting of a bed and breakfast allows for other characters to appear in just one book, which enhances the plot possibilities. There is some inconsistency with the level of writing, since the series is authored by multiple writers, but the flow from book to...more

About this book:

"The sleepy town of Acorn Hill is in for a surprise when the three Howard sisters reunite after the death of their father. Each has inherited a share of his worn-down Victorian house, and they dream of turning the family home into a bed-and-breakfast. But these three women are as different as siblings can be--can they survive living together, let alone going into business together? It looks like their dream may be headed for disaster! Only by learning to work together, trusting i...more

Three adult daughters are reunited when their father, a pastor at Grace Chapel, passes away. They meet again at their family home, an old Victorian house that is in disrepair. The sisters, though miles apart in demeanor and station in life, come together to repair and renovate the home and transform it into the Grace Chapel Inn.
A Christian easy readable "feel good" gentle read. While it started out slow, I'm glad I stuck with it. I came to love the sisters and smiled at the end

Beloved to Acorn Hill, Daniel Howard, father to Louise, Alice, and Jane, has just died, bringing Jane and Louise back home to where Alice, the middle sister, had been living with their father as she worked as a nurse nearby.

From debates on color and wallpaper to reaching compromises along the way, this first book in the Tales from Grace Chapel Inn marks the inception of the inn and how it came about.

Okay. Well that rarely happens. When I read a book and like it more the second time around. Well...more

I'm on page 31 and the book is simply boring. Not a thing so far to ignite a spark of interest. Must I go on?

This one remains a one star rating. Oh, these older women (sisters) may have their disagreements but things work in their favor. You know? I'd like to see the characters in Melody Carlson's books suffer and really feel "nailed to the wall" - you know, like reality? And not some happy-sappy, feel-good, happily-ever-after book.

- p. 214 and the book holds no promise -

Done reading and the ve...more

Looking for something like Mitford. My hopes aren't that high.

In the end....it's pleasant enough. It doesn't have that deep, satisfying content, that reflective tone. But it's not just another Christian romance, and I'm willing to read some more from the church library.

Any suggestions for anything as wonderful as Jan Karon's books would be deeply appreciated.

"Back Home Again," "Recipes & Wooden Spoons," and Hidden History" by Melody Carlson
I'd picked up these three titles by the same author based on a recommendation I'd read somewhere. I couldn't even get interested enough in the first one to try the other two. Even now I don't remember what they were about or what was supposed to interest me.

A wholesome story about 3 sisters who find each other again after the death of their father, who happened to be a pastor. Well written but had many similaities to another series I have read "Dearest Dorothy", which was much better. Not sure if I will continue to read any more in this series, I think there is a total of 13.
Sarah
First book of series about sisters whose various paths converge back together when their father dies. they decide to turn their childhood home in a small town into an Inn and all live together running it. A sweet, gentle read about every day life and the challenges and joys we find in it.

I love this whole series. This was the first book and I read it out of order but I dont care. The three come home for their fathers funeral and never leave. The decide to turn the family home into an inn. What a great adventure! There was only one recipe at the end but I will definetly try it.

You might want to try the inspirational series Tales from Grace Chapel Inn. The series is made up of warm and heartfelt stories with a focus on faith, and since each title is written by a different author, it may also help you find new favorite writers. This is the first in the series.

I enjoyed the entire series of Grace Chapel Inn, but none so much as the first. I love old Victorian houses, so the "fixing up" was fun ... the reunion of sisters ... the overtones of a religion that is lived, not preached ... I truly enjoyed this first book.
Janice
This was a great book! I love a story that doesn't have to rely on couple issues to make the story and the tie ins with God and prayer make this a great book for me. I love happy beginnings, middles and ends! Can't wait to read the next in the series!
Sue
You can just imagin what the place looked like and how it was refined into a wonderful little bed and breakfast inn. You feel for the three sisters in their lost and how they turn to God for guidence. Really makes you feel want to reconnect with family.

I found this a very light cozy read. It's christian fiction but very lightly woven in not in your face. It's the first book in the Tales From Grace Chapel Inn. I've heard you can read any of the books in the series out-of-order except the first one. You need to know how the three sisters come together again and start the Inn before you can read about their various adventures. If you get stuck on the series, it's got 32 books in the series. Each book is written by one only author, but the series...more

This was a sweet little book that had a Christian theme. Not my typical kind of edgy book, but I did enjoy it. I am going to recommend this book to my 84 year old mother, so take that for what's it's worth.

I loved this book. I liked the relationship between the three sisters. I liked the little town feel that this book gave. Just a good clean story. Can't wait to read more in this series.
Marbeth
I loved this heartwarming book about three sisters who reunite after the death of their Father, a local minister, and turn the family home into a B&B.
Connie
This was a light read. I enjoyed the three sisters and the wholesomeness of the story. I would recommend this book and series to anyone.
