One of the great things about being a teacher is you gives you a good excuse to read "kid's books". Enjoyed the first of the "Five Ancestors" series enough to try this second book, and liked it even better. While it extends the story that began with "Tiger", it also goes back and relates many of the parts of that story from another perspective. Sure, the plotline and writing may lack sophistication, and the moralizing and philosophizing may wear at times, but the

I like how Jeff Stone make the book in first person, making the book being told from the view of the person in the front cover. I like how he does that because he gets the reader to know about all of the brothers and sisters in this book. I like how he describes the story full detail. He describes the scene so specifically, that I could picture the scene in my mine really easily. My favorite part in this book was when Malao, the main character in this book, found a troop of monkeys to stay with

This book is the second book in the Five Ancestors series. I suggest you read Tiger first to be able to understand this book. Each book is told from a different person’s point of view. This one is told from Malao’s point of view. Malao in Cantonese means ‘Monkey’.
In this book Malao has many adventures such as running into a group of bandits and building a grave for his grandmaster. Malao meets up with Fu, the tiger style master introduced in the first book. He also meets his othe More...

I thought the book was great. It was very action packed with battles and Bandits and a whole bunch of other stuff. My favorite character was malao. He is the main character in this book and his kung fu style is monkey. He can swing around the tree's and he acts pretty much like a monkey.
The best battle in the book is where the monkey's are battling the bandit's. On the bandits there is a guy that malao recognizes, and with the monkey's there leader seems to know malao.

At 11-years-old, Malao is the youngest of the Five Ancestors. Master of the monkey fighting style, he's curious and quick, fast and fun-loving. But now, with the destruction of the temple and the deaths of his older brothers and Grandmaster, Malao the fun-loving monkey is forced to face things he'd rather not. As he grapples with these new and unwelcome feelings, Malao has an encounter with a dangerous band of bandits, is adopted by a troop of monkeys commanded by a one-eyed albino, and hears ta

The second in The Five Ancestors saga continues the tale of the young Cangzhen monks as they struggle to escape the evil Ying and his soldiers and protect the four Dragon scrolls. This tale is told from the point of view of eleven-year-old Malao the master of the Monkey style of king fu. As each book in the series progresses you find out more about the characters' past and piece together the puzzle along with them. This tale is full of excitement, humor, the importance of family, good vs. evil,

OK, here's the thing with this series: it just repeats the same story over and over! There are five books in the series, and each one is supposed to be from a different point of view of one of the "five ancestors" warriors. The first one was great, but then in the next one I already knew most of the information that was discussed. Cool idea, but this whole different points of view of the same thing just doesn't work like the author wanted it to. I stopped reading the series after t

Each one of these get better than the last. Well, maybe not. Thay are all great. This is a continuation of the Jeff Stone series of The Five Ancestors. It's about a bunch of monks that live in a temple and learn different styles of kung fu from their master. Each one of the monks have to go through their own personal journey to find out about themselves and about a mystery. Read them, you'll enjoy them.

Monkey was just as good as the Tiger. I think it was a bit funnier though, loved Malao. Had quit a few twist and turns in this book.
Malao, a young Cangzhen Monk got seperated from his other 4 brothers when there temple was destroyed. He eventually become friends with a white monkey who helps him along the way and he eventually reunites with two of his brothers towards the end. Loved the fighting techniques that Stone puts into the young characters, there very likable.

Five Ancestors: Monkey was a decent continuation of the story started in Tiger. Jeff Stone continues the story of the five brothers from the point of view of Malao, the constantly giggling monkey Kung Fu stylist. An interesting aspect of the storytelling in the series is that each book begins at a certain point in the previous book, but from a different character's point of view, and continues from there.

The second book in Five Ancestors series doesn't disappoint. As the cover suggests, this book focuses on Malao's journey. As with Fu, there is self discovery and a coming to terms with the outside world. I enjoyed the book and don't want to give anything away by discussing details of the book.

This is a great book second in the 5 ancestors series told by the point the point of view of the youngest monk Malao who meets up with Hok around Cangzhen and finds out Grandmaster is dead and feeling uneasy when they must bury his dead body so out of fear he flees and comes across some bandits and fights one called Hung. Malao is winning when Hung resorts to dirty tactics and brings him to his leader where Malao sees Seh and finds out the bandit leader is Seh's father and he and several other

The story continues of the 5 survivors from the destruction of Cangzhen Temple. Monkey has a totally different outlook and fighting style than his brothers and it is fun to read about his point of view. This series would especially appeal to young boys I think.

I really liked this book. I loved how it only told about what maleo did when he left the burning grounds of changzan temple. The author of this book always put me in the situation of where i say just one more chapter, and then the book gets better!!!

This is really more of a 3.5-star rating. Didn't enjoy it as much as the first, but it was a quick, fun read, well written for young readers. I do like how the overarching story slowly opens up to the reader as the 5 monks discover it themselves.

i think this was introduced by my sisters too. its about fighting and each person is skilled in different styles of fighting kung-fu. the people were orphaned and they have their own difficulties, but they are like brothers. its a great book.

Nice Description and Fast-paced action. This was a GREAT sequal to Tiger.
