This was perhaps my favorite children's book of all time. The book contains fairy tales and folklore from Eastern Europe. It is beautifully illustrated (to the point where it influences my taste in art to this day, more than 20 years later). The tales themselves are funny, sad and poignant, revealing the difficultly in making moral decisions. During the 80s, when there was no cable tv, video games, Internet and mp3s, children played out on the streets and read books! This is definitely one of my favorite books which I read over and over again. I found the stories weird, scary and fascinating all at the same time.
My daughter liked it a lot although she didn't understand some of the stories because they were kind of complicated.
