I wanted to like this book, I really did. There aren't enough books published about women of this age, not considering 'women of this age' are the main book buyers propping up the publishing industry, or so we're told. There are even fewer books about the erotic inner lives of widowed women.

But this felt like reading a writer's diary, into which various random thoughts had been scribbled -- memories, film reviews, descriptions of food, short stories, you name it. And like a diary, it felt unedit

Marion Halligan AM is an Australian writer and novelist. Born and educated in Newcastle, New South Wales, she worked as a school teacher and journalist prior to turning to full time writing.

A long time resident of Canberra, she was a member of a group of women writers based in Canberra known as the "Canberra Seven" or "Seven Writers" (1980-1997).
