When Georgie heard that Mr. and Mrs. Whittaker were going to the city and taking with them Herman the cat he decided that he and Miss Oliver the owl should also go. Who would make the ghost sounds so important for the family's comfort? This sequel to "Georgie" tells of the experiences that the three friends had before they all returned to the country.

This is one of my sister's storybooks from when she was little. I didn't realize it was part of a Georgie series, of which this is the second book. Georgie is a caring, little ghost(think Casper) who creates noise to help the Whittakers, those who inhabit the house he haunts, sleep better. His best friends are Miss Oliver, the owl, and Herman, the cat.

The Whittakers decide to leave their country home for a trip to the big city, taking Herman with them. The other two feel they must travel there

The Georgie the ghost books were some of my favorites as a child. I do not recall having ever read this one. Georgie and his friends find themselves off on an adventure in the city - following Mr. and Mrs. Whittaker - to make everything all right. I love the illustrations and the simple ways problems are solved within the story.

Monica Edinger responded to a blog I wrote about Halloween stories, recommending this picture book series about a ghost. I immediately read all eight "Georgie" books in my library and found him a fun character (which came first -- Georgie or Casper?) though the individual narratives were uneven in both storyline and writing. It's interesting to watch how the rather messy original illustrations -- all in blue! -- evolve to add other colors as the books progress over the years.
i just love these books that i recall reading when i was itty bitty. georgie the loveable ghost and his friends find themselves traveling with the whitakers to a hotel just to make the right nighttime sounds to set the stage for sleep.
