The Hostile Hospital was great. In this book the orphans are stuck in a hospital where Count Olaf and his henchmen kidnap Violet. They try to kill her by cutting her head off. Intelligently, under Count Olaf's nose they evade from being caught by disguising themselves as one of the doctors. Insted of Count Olaf typically disguising himself similar to the prior books, in this book the orpahns are the one who have to disguise themselves so they aren't caught in the clutches of the evil Olaf. I enjoyed the climax scene in this book because it is the biggest close-call yet! Klaus is amazing, and is amazing in the climax scene.

The Baudelaires are on their own and are stuck in a partially completed hospital, desperately searching for information about their parents and the mysterious VFD. Snicket deepens the mystery by implying that there's something about the Baudelaire parents that we don't know and that one of them may have survived the fire. My generic review for A Series of Unfortunate Events.
I really love this series. I love the wit and humor. I love the way the author 'explains' and 'defines' things to the reader. I was constantly laughing out loud while reading these.
The series does get progressively darker or more confusing as to who is good and who is bad. But it never reaches Harry Potter level. I would feel comfortable with my tweens reading these.
Very good twists and turns and outright ridiculous in parts...more

Finally! The Snicket books become great again. :) This is the eighth book in the series, and I loved it. There was plenty of adventure, the mysteries made me want to read until the end, and the plot wasn't predictable like in some of the other books. I also enjoyed the Mrs. Dalloway reference on page 140 ("...and they visited Clarissa Dalloway, who did not seem to have anything wrong with her but was staring sadly out the window of Room 1308..."). The 8th ASOUE book finds those remarkably resilient and self-reliant Boudlaires in a half hospital. Snicket continues his trend to move away from the formulaic plots of his first several books. I liked this book a little less than the other Series of Unfortunate Events books. This one was an even faster read (I read it in about 2.5 hours vs the 4-6 the previous books took) and seemed to lack the depth and layering of elements that the previous books have had. It furthered the main story, but it seemed like it held less as its own story. I started reading the Lemony Snickets books while waiting for Harry Potter Book 7 to come out thinking it would be similar style, etc. I think they're made a little bit more for a younger audience. They're okay, and entertaining but not as advanced or in depth as the HP series. I like them but don't love them like I do Harry Potter. They are easy to read but often on the sad side. Nothing really ever goes their way. But worth an easy read or maybe for the youngsters...

This book is about the 3 orphans Violet ,Klaus and Sunny. Violet was captured by Count Olaf and he wanted to do surgery on her. She was captured in a hospital and Count Olaf would make his evil followers watch over her. Klaus and Sunny would disguise themselves as one of Olaf's evil followers. They would soon rescue their sister. They would get extremely angry and the three orphans run away once again.

This book is real good i have nearly read all of the unfortunate events seires.This book is about wen the three orphans run away and goes to an hospital but they did not no their enemy count olaf tracked them down and came to the hospital as well and they dont no what to do.Then Count olaf wants to preform a surgery on 1 of the orpans but the exscaped it because there was a big fire that broke out in the hospital.

I like that we're changing up the formula here! No bumbling Mr. Poe, no guardian with lack of guardian-abilities, and the kids get separated. Plus, there are so many in jokes, which is something that I just love love love about Lemony Snicket's books. That Daniel Handler is one savvy fella. I also feel like this ends on more of a cliffhanger than the other books. THEY'RE IN THE TRUNK, MAN! That's just crazy!

As I was reading the Hostile Hospital I found myself board with the series. I had to force myself to finish reading this book. I felt that the Author has stretched his story too long. My husband says he would to, if he were an author just to make bank on his books. Hee Hee! I actually have bought the entire series and I am not sorry for doing so. It better pick up again at the end of the series.

It was a another good story from Lemony Snicket. The only complaint, and it is the same for every book he writes, constantly stopping the story to explain a word that he feels the reader won't understand is very annoying. I think it takes away from the story. If he feels that the reader won't understand the word then don't use it; find another word that will fit and they will understand.

From here on out the orphans are on their own, no more being shuffled from relative to relative. And at this point the books start including deep mysteries about their parents and a secret organization they were involved with (what is VFD?). Funny element: there are these volunteers who try to cheer up hospitalized patients by singing silly songs and giving them heart-shaped balloons.

This book is funny, but in a sombre way. It is very exasperating, as though you can feel the characters despair,as their is more trouble in the air for the Baudelaires,and its not just the wind. Also, i find that Lemony Snicket must've read lots of J.D.Salinger growing up, as one of his characters is the pompous Esme Squalor, and he protects his identitiy, just like Salinger did!

i dont really like these books that much. they're not very good. i only read them because i wanted to find out what happened to the baudelaire children... i guess #13 is the best, but it frustrated me because it left so many questions unanswered and it's the LAST book in the series!! yeah, i read the beatrice letters, but it didnt really answer anything or make sense...

I LOVE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ENTIRE SERIES!! I enjoyed the way the author writes. Very witty, and you can learn a lot of vocabularies from reading his books. Meanwhile, although it is supposed to be a book written for youngsters, the suspense is just killing me! I kept wanting to find out who people are and it just keeps me guessing. Evil Count Olaf!!!
