This book is a good entry to some of the political and cultural context of the development of the "Nicene" and "Arian" theology of God and Jesus. The author does a good job balancing complex theological discussions with lively descriptions of the political intrigue and violence that accompanied their debate. A fascinating look at the early evolution of the theology of the Christian Church and the evolving role of Christ from prophet to Savior and God. Also, the split of Eastern vs Western christianity and the conversion of the Empire by Constantine. The now infamous Arius and his Arian Herecy are also covered in great detail. A great read!

The early Christian Church (after AD 250) bears no resemblence to the New Testament.
