March to the Sea by David Weber and John Ringo, continues the Prince Roger series. Prince Roger and his bodyguards are stranded on the steamy jungle planet of Marduk. Roger and his companions are trying to get back to Earth and restore Roger to his place in the Imperial Palace of Man. Their goal is the star port on the other side of the planet from where they were forced to land their shuttles. Between them and the star port is a planet filled with deadly carnivores and even deadlier four-ar

#27 - 2010.
A favorite of mine, this continues to follow Bravo Company and the royal heir they are charged to protect, Prince Roger MacClintock, as they battle their way around Marduk where they were marooned. Hostile natives and planetary conditions add to the interest in this retelling of Xenophon's journey as they gradually work their way through the increasingly sophisticated sorts of government and warfare as they go. Additionally, Prince Roger is now shaking off his former spoil More...

The second installment of the Empire of Man series starts slow but gets much better towards the end. Weber’s obsessive verboseness unfortunately shows up here and there. Real people just don’t talk like that. There is lots of enjoyable discussion about weapons development, although a couple of drawings would have been nice for us mere mortals.
Note: This series is also known as the Prince Roger Series or the March Upcountry series.

The second book in this series, you start to see the characters mature a small amount which I would lay more at the feet of David Weber than John Ringo. It is another in my line of Popcorn easy SciFi. All in all a good book, but it doesnt wrestle with any startling themes and the characters are pretty predictable.

Sequel to March Upcountry
Prince Roger and the Marines continue their trek across Marduk. As their high tech weapons begin to loose their effectiveness (environmental issues and dwindling ammunition), allies are identified to fight the barbarian hordes and provide a useful technology base for reinforcing their mission.
Good military science fiction.

Also a good read, getting a little monotonous, but the main character, the prince. Feels like it's going to go on forever, kind of like the Voyager Star Trek series.
Will they ever make it? Probably not, but there is a book three, so we'll see!

I'm getting to like Roger and the other characters more and more. There was quite a lot more military hardware discussion in this one but, as usual, know-how, experience and discipline win the day. Enjoyed it a lot.

A spoiled prince and his bodyguards are stranded on a killer planet, and are trying to get home. Prince Roger is growing up, becoming a leader. More politics & large scale wars in this one.
I loved it. A fun read.

After reading March Upcountry, I had to continue on with the tale. Thought this was a bit weaker than the first book, but still enjoyable nonetheless. Now I want to finish the trilogy.

Good Sci-fi series, classic Weber Space Opera... well except they crash landed on a planet and are marching across hostile environments, depleating rations, and surviving impossible odds...

While I do find this story compelling and would like to know exactly how it turns out, I find myself bogged down in all the battles so finally abasndoned it after reading about 150 pages.

Simply one of the greatest series out there, I've lost track of how many times I've read this series! I can only hope John Ringo and David Weber do continue with it.

Interesting Sci-Fi Series. Take a spoiled prince and sabotage his ship. Land on a planet filled w/hostiles w/a squadron of elite guards and watch him grow up.

Still goo9d but not as fresh and original as March Upcountry. A lot of plowing of previously plowed ground.

I had been concerned about the general direction of these books, as they seemed familiar. "Mission of Gravity" involves a cross-planet trek of an intrepid band across a planet. Pike armies are created from scratch several times in the Dray Prescot series. However, this series leaves familiar ground about halfway through this book.

This novel allows for the incomprehensibly arrogant view of mankind as superior while humbling mankind in courage.

You can feel a larger touch from David in this book over book 1. One of the best over all books I have read this year.

A continuation to March Upcountry, my review is about the same. Fun quick read if you like the genre.

You need a big "fargin" wrench to pull me away from this series. (Read it and you'll know what I mean.

I liked this book but it didn't have the same feeling for me that the first book in the series did. That was more of an adventure and this one didn't really have an adventure for me at all. So I'm a little disappointed in that. I will continue on to book number three but it won't be right away.

Excellent Sci-Fi with a LOAD of realistic planetary survival and military knowledge!

This one dragged just a little. I like the military history/weaponry lessons, almost as much as I love the plot.
