Christine Feehan's Dark Legend is the 8th book in her "Dark Carpathians" series, and I must tell you that the books just get better and better as I continue. In this book we delve further into the legendary twin Carpathian hunters Gabriel and Lucian. The last couple of books have "whispered" to us of them, but as this is Gabriel's story, we learn a lot about him and his brother here. This is also the story of Francesca Del Ponce, Gabriel's amazing lifemate.

Just when you think you've met the oldest and most powerful of Christine Feehan's Carpathian males, she produces one who's even older and more powerful. We've heard the stories about the legendary Daratrazanoff twins, Gabriel and Lucian. Gregori's older brothers were great fighters and protectors of the Carpathian people. Everyone has believed them dead for centuries, but they've really been locked beneath the earth all this time.

The brothers made a pact early on that should either one become a...more

I tried Christine Feehan before and couldn't get into her stories, but so many recommend her I had to give her another shot.

Dark Legend, the story of Gabriel, the Carpathian hero who lived for centuries with one intent, keeping his Carpathian-turned-Vampire twin brother, Lucian, in check.

Dark Legend opens with Gabriel awakening after a century's long, self-induced sleep in the earth, hungry and in need. Almost immediately, he meets up with Franchesca- who just happens to be his lifemate.

Gabriel and his twin, Lucian, are legendary hunters among the Carpathians. They have been destroying vampires and defeating human armies for two millennia, but for the past hundred years no one has seen or heard of them. Word is that Lucian turned vampire and his brother hunted and fought him across the globe. Now after a century of sleeping beneath a Parisian cemetery, construction crews have woken them to a new world, new technology but the same age-old battle.

Gabriel wakes hungry, his body li...more

Este livro foi uma agradabilíssima surpresa. Não tinha muitas expectativas quando o comecei a ler apesar da história poder prometer. E agarrou-me logo desde as primeiras páginas.

I have a small number of favourites in this series and this is certainly one of them. There is so much to like about this story. Francesca is fairly unique among Carpathian females - highly independent, resourceful, courageous, and very skilled as a healer. She is the only female, in the books I've read so far, who is planning to face the dawn. Her struggle to accept Gabriel into her life is not uncommon in this series, but she also struggles to forgive him for his apparent earlier rejection of...more

I have a guilty secret (well not so secret) it's these darn Carpathian books. Truly they aren't really my style but bloody hell I still read them because there is something about the men that I just like and some of the women too. This book though I personally found a tough read, she was so good, he was so good, no he was so good, no she was...you get my point. Christine Feehan is to be thanked for today's PNR UF books but boy can she waffle sometimes and this book was a waffler and a half. The...more

I must say, I am VERY fond of the Dark Series books that feature ancient Carpathian women. Francesca is such a strong character and so elegant and caring, I adore her and he strength. Thant being said, the dynamics between Lucian and Gabriel as ancient warrior twins who are so used to functioning as virtually one being was a fairly gut wrenching emotional twist. The pain conveyed by Feehan when Gabriel contemplated losing his brother to the darkness and being forced to end Lucian's existence was...more

Evading vampires, Carpathians and human hunters for so many centuries, Francesca Del Ponce was amazed that the one male she wanted to avoid the most walked out of the darkness and into her arms. Hunger was such a strong feeling as Gabriel emerged from his disturbed rest only to find one of the most healing souls he had ever run across. As soon as Francesca realized who was with her, her lifemate, she knew what would happen, offering her life for his seemed her only option to save him, and hersel...more

I know that a lot of people have a hard time getting past the first few books in this series. They were written 11 to 12 years ago and what was acceptable and expect then is not necessarily the same today. These books can be addictive though just as any author with a long running series can be. This is the first book about the Daratraznoff twins. They have fought vampires and invading armies protecting their people and the human race all their lives. They have known only bleak lives lived in a w...more

Francesca has spent centuries learning to live as a human, hiding and withdrawing from the Carpathians because she knows her life mate has chosen a different path. But just when she's ready to take that final step into being human, taking a husband and growing old with him, her true life mate returns.

Gabriel has spent several hundred years asleep, keeping his twin locked under ground where he can do no harm, because that twin has given up his soul and turned into the very vampire the brothers hu...more

Umm, apparently book 7 is just a short story in the After Twilight anthology. That sort of numbering makes my head hurt. Anyway. I really did enjoy Gabriel and Francesca's story, I just had a really hard time sitting down and reading it for any extended length of time. This book took me forever. for.ev.er. Like, a freaking week. Terrible. That said, I thought that Francesca's sacrifice in withdrawing from the other Carpathians made sense after she believed her chance with her lifemate had passed...more

Gabriel has risen. Centuries of being unable to destroy his twin, Lucian. Knowing that his twin has turned from the glorious Carpathian hunter he had been in to a vampire does not make tearing his own heart in half any easier. His attempt to keep Lucian from his destructive path by locking them away below ground for centuries has failed. Now he finds he must once again, hunt his own brother.

Francesca is a healer. Being a lone, Carpathian female, she knows who her lifemate is. Gabriel. The Hunter...more

Dark Legend tells the story of Gabriel, an ancient, powerful Carpathian vampire hunter who is on the verge of turning into the very thing he hunts if he does not find his lifemate. And if that wasn't enough, he has vowed to kill his twin brother who he believes has turned vampire. Francessca is an ancient Carpathian female who has managed to live in the human world and keep her existance a secret ever since her lifemate left her unclaimed centuries ago. This is their story.

As with the other book...more

I remember reading a review that mentioned C. Feehan as a good author, so I gave this a try. I am not normally into PNR at all.

The story started out very interesting, I liked the background about how these particular vampire-like beings live. I guess they are actually protectors, not human, not really vamps, but they drink blood from their beloved... I think.... but they are healers too and are pretty cool. Gabriel is hawt and comes form another era, so he has that swoony gentlemanly thang going...more

Gabriel is an Ancient Carpathian, everyone thought he was dead. Gabriel has a twin brother, everyone thought he turned Vampire and Gabriel killed him...so is dead.

In this story we find neither of the Ancient twins dead. Dark Legend is Gabriel's story and how he meets Francesca, fall in love and have a HEA. We find out what happened to Lucian, Gabriel's brother and well...I'll stop there cause I don't want to giveaway the story.

I find Christine Feehan's Dark Series seems to get better with ever...more

I struggled through this inially because of that darn lifemate Franacesca! While not as whinny as yucky Raven, she worked my last nerve. Then, when she went off on the human Bryce I gained a semblence of respect for her. But I didn't like the way she initially treated Gabriel, after all, he is a Daratrazanoff so my though is "How Dare She". As I read more about her in future books, I warmed all the more to her. In Dark Celebration, I became her fan because in Dark Celebration you have all the wo...more

I wish there would have been a 3.5 star designation...

I was really looking forward to this one because I knew the woman was the one who said the vow first, and I was looking forward to reading one of these where the woman wasn't so dominated and "taken" by the man. Of course, she still manages to get some of that feel in there, but I think the overall tone is different. From the beginning, Gabriel appreciates Francesca's good qualities and isn't as overbearing as some of the males in the other b...more

I have a secret…….when it comes to reading books …it’s like living with OCD….you know…obsessive compulsive disorder!!!!! If I start reading the first book in a series I have to read them all……what a luck that my friend gave me the first 12 or 13 books in the Dark Series….which I finished reading nonstop for the next two weeks….and before I reached book 12, I had in my possession the entire series (after doing a web search to find where they could be bought!!!).
Hunger…that’s what I felt……turning...more

Carpathians book 8. Audiobook library book downloaded to my phone. Uh oh! Every fan of horror novels knows that digging in a graveyard is NEVER a good idea! This is how the twins Gabriel and his turned-vampire brother, Lucian are let loose from their imprisonment /entrapment.

So far, I think this is the best of the Feehan's Carpathians series I have read. There are lots of characters outside of the main ones and more plot lines than the other books have.

Skye, the young girl that Francesca and Gab...more

So, just like I liked Dark Magic with Gregori and Savannah, I like this one. I love the fact that the woman is not having panic attacks because of the changes she's going through. She's already Carpathian, she knows what's happening and she's a force to reckon with on her own. The relationship between Francesca and Gabriel is touching, he's so empty, dealing with the struggles of his brother (he definitely should have known p.s.) but the fact that she just let him be who he was destined to be is...more

These seem to finally taking the slight turn from PNR to UF a tiny bit more.

I liked this one. There was a little more plot than some of the others, there were some noticeable changes to the sex scenes that was a bit of a relief from the previous offerings, the male protagonist was not insufferably alpha and the female protagonist was not a whiner.

I also like there being a bit more of a focus on some of the longer story arcs, but not so much that you get left feeling like you got a manipulative...more

What is the allure of this life-mate nonsense? It is neither a particularly romantic concept nor does it make a good foundation for an engrossing narrative. I know there are stories which do it well, giving it an unexpected twist or a deeper meaning. 'Dark Legend' is not one of those.

Heroine is a saint who worked hard on forging an independent life for herself. Hero crawls from the soil after a century long confinement and stumbles upon his mate 10 minutes later. Instead of letting her get to kn...more
