I read this book as a POW in Kazakhstan (long story). Its steamy sex scenes and faithful descriptions of the behind-the-scenes world of news magazine (I am a former anchor on Hard Copy) helped me survive torture, starvation, and Kazakh pornography.

I can't believe O'Reilly wrote this book. Not because it was super controversial, but rather because it was such blatant wish fulfillment that I would assume he'd be mortified to have people read it. I had a lot of the same feelings I get when I read Mary Sue-ish fan fiction: can the author really not tell that they've written themselves into the novel?

What do I rate this schlock masterpiece? Easily one of the most unsettling books I've ever read, because it's obviously just Billy O fantasizing about murdering everyone who's ever done him wrong. Even better, it's (ickily) sexually explicit and horrifically violent, two things that the Big Splotch rails against on his show, so it not only shows him to be a bit of a closet sociopath, but also a total raging hypocrite. (Also, there is a fascinating correlation between the sex scenes in this book...more

A real page turner because you just can't wait to see to what depth of crapitude O'Reilly can write. Disturbing on a fundamental level the book is misogynistic, poorly written, and the characters are just caricatures or cardboard cut-outs from a lazy screenplay writer. Freud would have a hey-day with this given that is seems O'Reilly is exorcising some seriously fucked-up demons by projecting onto the protagonist what he'd like to do to all of those who have victimized him in his past.

While the story itself was well thought out, Bill O'Reilly is not a writer and should stick to his Fox News show.
Definitely an interesting (and surprising...I guess I tend to be pretty naive about this stuff) commentary on what can go on behind the scenes in the broadcast journalism business. I could have done without all of the sexy stuff...really gratuitous.
The storyline was the only reason I finished. I did think it was fascinating, although he certainly didn't leave the mystery part very mys...more

Well. . .the story itself is actually not bad, a sturdy story of revenge murders and boilerplate detective work.
The writing, however. . .whew. Overblown, wordy, gratuitous, almost absurdest in how seriously it begs to be taken. . .
A direct quote - and this was from early on in the novel: "He obviously preferred oral sex to oral hygiene." Really.

Fun & easy read. A great mystery "whodunnit" novel that is a page-turner. A little graphic in two parts that led to some skimming - so be warned. The perspective of a television journalist was unique and interesting as well.
This was a really good murder mystery that was written by Bill O'Reilly. It was well written and held our interest all the way through. You need to write more fiction, Bill!

This is a great book. Bill O'Reilly is an entertaining fiction author. His story was interesting, fast-paced and informative while using great humor and erudite vocabulary. I liked his reading the book himself.
Regardless how you feel about his politics, this book is not political, it is worth checking out if nothing else for his narration of erotic scenes. I hope he writes a sequel.

A good read, kept me on edge....
Good mystery.
This was better than I was expecting. The story line was fairly solid, and I found the peek into journalism interesting, since I don’t read much that provides any insight into that world. However, you really have to get past the writing style. Or rather, the lack of one. It reminds me of something I would have written in high school or college. Just not very sophisticated at all. If I hadn’t been grabbed by the plot, I wouldn’t have finished it.
My husband used to like O'Reilly, so I bought this book for him, but I read it first. This book is awful! Clearly he possesses no talent when it comes to the written word. When you read it, you get the sense that O'Reilly thought he was writing something good! PLUS he gave it plugs on his show. Gag me. Characters are unlikeable and mostly unmemorable. I actually tossed this one into the garbage--before my husband had a chance to read it. Ha!

Interesting if you have any experience in the news business, but not that great of a book. It seems to suffer from the same problem O'Reilly's TV show does: nothing is nuisance. Everything is in black and white. And so the characters become caricatures.
Still, it is interesting how one of TV's moral crusaders describes some of life's more intimate moments, particularly how a narcissist has sex...

this book is terrible, like the author..... but open to any page and read and i swear you will laugh and blush.
Nice mystery. Inside story about backstabbing within the TV news industry. O'Reilly does non-fiction better.
Why did I read a book written by Bill O'Reilly? I will never know. Poorly written, boring plot, barely tolerable.
I am really surprised that Bill O'Reilly can spin a really good yarn and murder mystery.
