Very good read. Fast paced and full of useful info. This will steer me toward Jane's book In the Shadow of Man. I really like how it balanced the personal info, the fundraising/philanthropy and groundbreaking primatology.

While the content was interesting, the writing was poor and the amount of detail was too much. The personal stories were great, but they were written as if by a 5th grader. Yes, I know this was written for young adults, but I read plenty of YA books and they're written to a higher quality.

I learned a lot I didn't know previously, especially regarding Jane's personal life. I wonder how the author got the info. Would be nice to hear that story as well.

Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen never thought she'd grow up to be a writer. She'd thought of being a doctor (but she's afraid of blood), a model (but she likes to eat), the president (but she had a dissolute youth)... so much for childhood dreams. Sudipta is the author of eleven picture books and seventeen nonfiction books for children including The Hog Prince, illustrated by Jason Wolff (Dutton, 2009), B...more
