Recommends it for: cat lovers & those who enjoy reading writing samples by many authors
What’s not to like: some authors that I enjoy, and some unknown to me and I was happy to be introduced to them, containing good photos of the writers & their cats, and some wonderful true cat stories. Each one is a short vignette but I remember all of them being very interesting.
Published authors are not necessarily the best at writing about cats. A good many of these essays read as laundry lists of cats currently and previously owned with some gushing sentiment thrown in to the mix. Some of the authors though had a little more fun with their essays. My favorite essays of the lot are by: Lloyd Alexander, Edward Gorey, Barbara Mertz, and Sue Grafton.
